Today at a LEO demo event in partnership with Halim Yanikomeroglu Afsoon Alidadi Shamsabadi and Carleton University I unboxed a Reskube for the first time. I thought it would be fun to share that experience with the students and industry professionals in attendance who are part of the IEEE chapter in Ottawa. Reskube combines a portable power plant, multi-network load balancer and wireless access point into a single unit. It does a lot more than that with an amazing control interface that can be managed from anywhere. We are going to integrate this game changing technology into demos of our rapidly deployable user terminals to provide near-instantaneous connectivity anywhere on earth. Thanks to Andrew Lawton for sending this to us to enhance our agility by providing power and resiliency on the move!
The inevitable 6G question was raised during the Q&A session at the end of my presentation. As normal, I took a deep breath before giving me own perspective on this point. Now I fully understand why the audience of mainly university staff would be interested in this subject but I still do not think that this is healthy for the industry as a whole. Only this morning I got an email about a RCR Wireless webinar to discuss 'Will 6G finally deliver on the promises of 5G?'. Am I alone in thinking this?

Single optical fiber cable with 3,456 fibers!! Extreme density solution. Just can't imagine maintainance of such cable network. Single cable cut can lead to massive outage. Sure, there will be diversity, but.....A 1728-fiber count cable (144 mass splices) would take about 19 hours of splicing as per industry feedback. So this may take 35+ hours.
This is a photo of the end of a fiber optic cable with 3,456 individual glass fibers packed inside. Each fiber is capable of transmitting light at 127,000 miles per second or 457 million miles per hour. One fiber can carry a light signal powerful enough to stream 1.5 million YouTube videos at once. Like a transistor radio in your car; there are many channels for the light to travel on within that single fiber. Using simple math, 10 channels on a single fiber, each streaming 1.5 million videos, multiplied by 3,456 fibers… This cable can carry 5.184e10 (more than 50 billion) videos at once.
