Could AI be the answer to streamlined rare disease real-world data collection in France and other markets?  It can be challenging to build a robust evidence base for rare disease therapies, given the difficulties and cost of patient recruitment. France’s transparency commission have recognized that real-world data (#RWD) collection for patients receiving #CART therapies (through the DESCAR-T register) is providing valuable information coherent with that from clinical trials, through allowing ‘artificial comparative arms’ to expand on non-comparative clinical data.  Artificial intelligence (#AI) is being used increasingly in the healthcare sector. Nathalie Varoqueaux, Medical Director at Amgen France, revealed that the company are building an AI platform to extract patient data in support of their growing rare disease pipeline. Such a platform is expected to alleviate some of the financial and resourcing challenges arising from RWD registry management. Although manufacturers are typically responsible for registry operation, this also requires healthcare provider resources and can be subject to human error. Depending on the outcome and success of Amgen’s registry, this could serve as an example of how developers can confidently engage in innovative access agreements and mandated data collection, with fewer associated risks. Manufacturers could consider an ‘AI-assisted RWD collection plan’ to reassure payers and HCPs with streamlined data collection and minimized resource demands, in-line with agreed launch conditions. This would be useful during early access agreement discussions as well as post-launch data collection, where a robust data collection plan is required.
