I have been a firm opponent of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for a long time. When a company's assets and intellectual property are stored on personal devices for purposes of development, it sets a dangerous precedent. Where does the person end and the employee begin? If the organization runs a Mobile Device Management solution, this opens up far greater security concerns for both parties. A 'cousin' to this solution is Work From Home (WFH) which while also invasive, is much less so than root access to all of your mobile devices at any moment. When I was still inspired and positive about the IT industry, I looked forward to this. However, we saw this paradigm shift lead to losses in revenue for organizations who bought space for their employees to work, who in turn retaliated against their employees; pay reductions and dismantling of WFH programs being the chief examples. The pandemic may be behind us, but the lessons we learned are still here. For remote work, the genie is out of the bottle. It's here to stay. There is a push to try and re-assert more constraints on employee time, and I wholeheartedly support everyone 'cutting the cord' in regards to things like this. You are more than an employee. You are more than your job. TL;DR: Set your boundaries, keep your work/life balance in order and don't be guilt-tripped by people who'd replace you with automation the moment it somewhat works. https://lnkd.in/evGfMsf8

Implementing a Work levelling system is essential for organisations aiming to retain and engage employees while securing long-term success. With an effective framework in place, both employees and the organisation gain a clear direction for growth. Though establishing a work levelling system can seem challenging initially, once in place, it simplifies processes for everyone involved. The key then is to regularly assess and update the system as the work environment evolves. #worklevel #od

Does your employer trust you? Sure, they have a flexible hybrid working policy. You might be grateful that your manager allows you to work from home to complete essential tasks without being distracted or only coming into the office for important meetings. But at what cost? The days of leaving the day job behind at 5pm are long gone. Many workers are expected to be online around the clock and ready to respond to that critical email late at night. There has also been a rise in workplace surveillance tools that monitor every keystroke and mouse movement, and the inconspicuous laptop webcam could be watching your every move. Many workers are fighting productivity paranoia with tools such as mouse jigglers to keep bosses off their backs. But as trust begins to break down between employers and employees, what does this mean for the future of WFH? Key Takeaways 1️⃣ Microsoft survey revealed that 85% of employers are concerned that remote work makes it harder to track productivity. 2️⃣ 62% of companies have started using monitoring software 3️⃣ Gartner expects the number of employers using monitoring tools to rise by 70% within the next three years. 4️⃣ 40% of workers believe that using monitoring tools damages trust between employees and management. 5️⃣ 48%of US workers indicated they would accept a pay cut to avoid being constantly monitored by their employer. 6️⃣ Wells Fargo fired over a dozen employees for allegedly using mouse jigglers In my latest article for Techopedia, I explore the rise of employee monitoring tools in the workplace and the future of #hybridworking. Perhaps the way forward is to measure deliverables, not how they are delivered.
