Most of the risks stem from the design and equipping of the water birth pools themselves and this is where this article will focus. These issues concern rim mounted fixtures and fittings, emergency evacuations, midwives comfort and support, and mothers getting in and out of the pool.

It is crucial to acknowledge those without access to digital devices as healthcare becomes increasingly digitised. Educating the community on how to use healthcare apps is essential, alongside providing the necessary resources to access them. Many pregnant women I have spoke to and still engage with within the community speak of how they find it difficult to use their pregnancy app and often ask their spouses or other members to help navigate the system. I often think about how elderly individuals in the community would manage without the support of family and friends to reorder prescriptions or check their health records and upcoming appointments. As digitalisation is the future of the NHS, apps must be developed with input from the community and designed for accessibility from inception.
