Health Tip Tuesday: Teaching Your Teen Breast Health 🩺 While it’s very rare for girls under 20 to be diagnosed with breast cancer, it’s still crucial for parents to start early conversations about breast health. Empower your teen to understand their bodies and feel confident doing self-exams. ✨ Here are 3 Tips: 1️⃣ Know what’s normal for your body. -Familiarize yourself with the look and feel of your breasts. 2️⃣ Use the right technique for breast self-exams. -use the pads of your fingers to move in small, circular motions across the entire breast area, applying light, medium, and firm pressure. 3️⃣ Check regularly, monthly, after your period. -If you notice lumps, pain, or skin changes, consult a healthcare provider. Dense breast tissue, as opposed to fatty breast tissue, is composed of more fibrous or glandular tissue than fat, making it much harder to read on a mammogram. Approximately 50% of the women in the United States have dense breast tissue. The power of an ultrasound can increase the detection of breast cancer from approximately 48% to 97%, particularly in women with dense breasts. Today's a SPECIAL DAY for Women's Breast Health. You may be seeing this on the internet and not understand WHY or HOW it impacts you ... I'll break it down for you here. WHY:  The FDA MQSA requirements go into effect today 10 September 2024! WHAT does this mean (to the average person)? ✨ Imaging (mammography) facilities in the USA will be required to notify all women about their breast density status after completing a mammogram. (dense breast notification). Prior to this, notification was only required in 39 States. ✨ Even in the states with prior notification, many people did not understand what it meant, or why it matters. ✨ The letter you receive at home, will change. There will be new language. If you haven't been told this information before it may seem confusing or concern you. This is where Check Your Chart® by My Density Matters comes in. ✨ We've made it super easy for you, your family and friends to gain a better understanding and elevate the conversation with your doctors. HOW - *It's as simple as this in the USA: TEXT: Check Your Chart  TO:  211411 We will walk you through: ✨ WHAT the terminology means ✨ WHY it matters ✨ WHERE to find more specific information in your patient portal ✨ HOW to collaborate better with your doctor.
