With Mother’s Day coming up, many of us are working on the perfect plan to celebrate our moms. Some, however, are trying to forget the holiday altogether, as it can serve as a painful reminder of loss. Regardless of how long ago the loss took place, spending Mother’s Day without mom may never feel easy or any less difficult than the earliest months after her passing. As counterintuitive as it sounds, finding ways to celebrate may be just what you need to make it through the day. During the first Friday in September, National Lazy Mom's Day delegates everyday mom jobs to someone else. #NationalLazyMomsDay Busy moms know that the work of being a parent is never done. However, occasionally parents need to recharge. The laundry and the dishes will be there later. When possible, finding someone to watch the children for a few hours is worth it. Sometimes all a mom needs is a nap. Other times, mothers (and fathers too) seek adult conversation. Even though moms around the country view this day in different ways, the majority see it as a day for moms to take a break. While the occasion holds no shine to Mother's Day, may we suggest some cooperation with Mom? Allow her to take a break. Divide the chores. Place a moratorium on family feuds. That's how most celebrate this National Day. You don't have to celebrate like most moms do, however. Maybe it is a hammock and book kind of day for your lazy afternoon. Help mom celebrate this holiday by cleaning up after yourself. Rub her feet. Walk the dog. Mow the lawn. Put the dishes away. Pick up your dirty clothes. The list goes on.

As busy moms, we know some days are all about survival mode. But making sure our kids feel seen and valued is still one of our biggest priorities, right? This doesn’t mean we need grand gestures. Sometimes, a few genuine words here and there make a world of difference. I put together a few phrases I love for those small, meaningful moments—especially on the days when time is tight. Try one of these today and see what a difference it makes. #ParentingSupport #FamilyConnections #MomLifeReset

Tomorrow is Mother's Day. No. I am not going to get into a metaphysical discussion about whether this holiday also includes dog-moms. In any event, I think Maggie is quite clear on the subject - although Ann Rawls might differ, saying that our dog just thinks of her as the "spare human." More seriously, while Mother's Day may be a "Hallmark Holiday," celebrating mothers is a good thing. After all, every single human who has ever lived was born of one. All of us have that in common. My mother died when I was young, forty years ago. Yet, I can honestly say that there is not a day that goes by where I don't think of her at least once. I am also confident that my experience is not particularly unique or the product of some unusual relationship with my parents. So here is my message: If you still have one, call your mom tomorrow. Better, go see her if you can. There may be issues - that's true for many people, maybe most of us - but unless you've made the conscious (and rare) decision to have no relationship, reach out. Try to put aside old disputes and wounds. Parents deserve mercy too - especially from their children. The connection with our families matters hugely. Do what you can to maintain it. #community #family #mothersday #connection

PSA to any dads celebrating mother's day this year: There are 365 days and 5,840 hours (assuming 8 hours of sleep each night ha). If you're thinking of giving mom "a day off" from household chores, awesome. I'd offer for your consideration: - One "day off" is nice, but the other 364 days should be spent equitably sharing in the physical, emotional, and mental load. - Make sure mom's "off" day isn't just doubling her workload tomorrow - notice what needs to be done (without asking her) and get it done so tomorrow isn't overwhelming. What moms that I know really want from their partners: - Their time valued equally. - Their time freedom honored. - Partners to notice without asking. - Commitment to personal development. - Invisible work load awareness from their partner. - Equitably sharing in the invisible work load of their home. The truth is, we don't need a day to celebrate moms or dads. But if you choose to celebrate it, the best gifts are the ones that don't add any load (physical, mental, emotional) to mom. Hope this helps. Rooting for you :) #mothersday #MentalLoad #FairPlay
