I just arrived in Zürich where I will speak at the Beyond Budgeting Round Table conference tomorrow. Very much looking forward to hearing about cases at Roche, Caritas and Handelsbanken! I will share some lessons learned from various agile transformation attempts that I have experienced over the last years and foresee an interesting dialogue on Beyond Budgeting as a critical success factor for agility. Really enjoyable session at #WMXEurope today - New Age of Customer-Centric Logistics with some great subject experts: Patrick Frith of Avalara showed how the tricky world of x-border (thanks Boris☹️) can be circumnavigated with clever tech and a dedicated focus on customer experience. Marc Sarmiento showed why he is the 'Q' of Österreichische Post AG with some great customer segmentation and applied solutions from his box of tricks..... and I forgive him for putting me in older segment 😉. Matthew Jacques showed why ZigZag Global are the absolute experts in structured returns solutions with great insight into customer requirements and the interesting inter-relationship with merchant priorities....and now I know what 'reventory' is 😃. Last but not least Misko Kancko from Canada Post / Postes Canada showed he is not only an expert in Scottish Malt Whisky 🥃 but highlighted why top down leadership was imperative in driving a truly customer-centric organisation. Good luck in the next challenge Misko. Really insightful and really easy to Chair with such a nailed-on group - great fun 👍

A big thank you Rosemarie Corrigan FRQA FRSB as chair and Joanne Donald, FRQA and Fabrizio Maniglio who co-presented with me this week, and to the Research Quality Association (RQA) team for organizing and hosting such a high-information-density session on "AI and QA – What Are the Essentials?"   The session was a deep dive into the role of AI in pharmaceutical quality assurance, covering topics like: - Practical applications of AI in clinical trials and QA processes, including predictive modeling, NLP, and decision support systems. - The evolving regulatory landscape with insights into the EU AI Act, FDA guidance, and EMA reflection paper. - Governance frameworks and the challenges of implementing AI responsibly while maintaining compliance with GxP principles. Here are a few standout quotes from the session: - “AI isn’t here to replace us; it’s here to augment our intelligence and make processes smarter and more efficient.” – Hans de Raad - “Even low-risk applications under R&D exemptions must demonstrate fitness for purpose (under the EU AI Act) and comply with rigorous validation standards.”– Joanne Donald - “Governance must be adaptive, not static, to meet the rapid advancements in AI technologies.” – Fabrizio Maniglio A major highlight was the audience engagement through thought-provoking polls and Q&A, with key takeaways like: - The strong potential of NLP and machine learning in transforming QA processes. - The importance of maintaining human oversight to prevent over-reliance on AI systems. - An overwhelming interest in forming a dedicated AI Special Interest Group (SIG) within the RQA to foster collaboration, share best practices, and keep members ahead of the curve in this fast-evolving field.
