December 1 is Red Scarf Day, a day to reflect on the impact of HIV/AIDS and unite in support of those affected. This date aligns with World AIDS Day, established in 1988 as the first global health day, to raise awareness, combat stigma, and remember the millions who have been lost to the epidemic. The red scarf symbolizes care, solidarity, and the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS. This movement has roots in the 1980s, a time when fear and misinformation surrounded the disease, leading to stigma and discrimination. Activists and organizations fought tirelessly for recognition, treatment, and human rights, paving the way for the advancements we see today. Yet, the work is far from over. Globally, over 38 million people are living with HIV, and marginalized communities, including 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, continue to face disproportionate impacts. Join the call to end stigma and ensure access to education, testing, and care for everyone. Let’s honor the history of resilience and advocacy that brought us here and commit to a future of inclusivity and health equity. Wear your red scarf with pride and share its meaning with others—because awareness starts with conversation, and progress starts with us. #RedScarfDay #WorldAIDSDay #EndTheStigma #HIVAwareness #StratfordPerthPride

My thoughts on HIV: While we've made significant strides in testing methods, available medications, and preventative measures—including the impact of allies in the community—there remains a pressing need for enhanced education and representation concerning HIV literacy. The conversation surrounding HIV is often mired in confusion and stigma, particularly regarding the complexities of disclosure. Disclosure is a deeply personal and vulnerable process, unique to each individual. It encompasses a myriad of factors, including the "who," "when," and "how" of sharing one's status, leading to varied experiences that can be both empowering and challenging. As we move forward, addressing these facets is crucial for fostering a more supportive and informed environment. #openlypositive❣️ #HIVawareness #Blackcaribbeanwomanandhiv #womenandhiv #hivliteracy #publichealth #nostigma

The Global Stigma Index Report sheds light on the ongoing challenges faced by people living with HIV worldwide. Results indicate a significant gap in achieving the Global AIDS Strategy goal by 2025, with more than 10% still experiencing stigma and discrimination. This underscores the critical need for continued efforts to combat internalized and external HIV-related stigma, especially among key populations. The report serves as a crucial baseline for ongoing monitoring and policy shaping to drive impactful change at a global level. GNP+ remains dedicated to its mission by collaborating with HIV networks to advocate for improved quality of life for all individuals living with HIV. Through community-led research and resource provision, GNP+ empowers communities to lead the change for global advocacy. Let's prioritize #Local4Global initiatives and ensure #CommunitiesFirst to truly #LeaveNoOneBehind! #CommunitiesAtTheCenter
