🤝 We are pleased to introduce Silke Forkmann, our new colleague. Silke holds a diploma in Applied Natural Sciences. Prior to joining team varvis®, she gained experience in both academia and a variety of biological laboratories. She has spent the past ten years working in the field of genetic diagnostics for rare human diseases, most recently as the head of a genetic diagnostic laboratory department. From now on, she will be providing active support to our customers as part of our Product Management and Service department. We're happy to have you with us, Silke! 🎉

Today we commemorate Mary Frances Lyon (15 May 1925 – 25 December 2014), an outstanding British geneticist whose work on the causes of mutation and inheritance significantly shaped genetic research. In 1961, in the course of her work on radiation risks, she discovered X-chromosome inactivation, the process for which she is best known. This phenomenon, also known as Lyonization in her honor, describes the process whereby one copy of the X-chromosome in female mammals is inactivated. This discovery helps explain why female "carriers" of X-linked genetic disorders may exhibit mild symptoms.
