In 1962, the automotive world witnessed a significant innovation with the introduction of the Oldsmobile Jetfire, the first turbocharged car. This landmark vehicle marked a pivotal moment in automotive engineering, introducing turbocharging technology to the mass market. The Jetfire was powered by a turbocharged 215 cubic inch (3.5 L) aluminum V8 engine, which produced an impressive 215 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. This engine was not only innovative due to its turbocharger but also because of its use of a water injection system, known as 'Turbo Rocket Fluid,' which helped prevent engine knock and allowed for higher compression ratios. The Oldsmobile Jetfire's introduction to the market was a bold move by General Motors, showcasing their commitment to innovation and their willingness to explore new technologies to enhance the performance of their vehicles. Despite its pioneering technology, the Jetfire was only produced for two years, with approximately 9,607 units sold. The car's complex maintenance requirements and the public's unfamiliarity with turbocharged engines contributed to its short production run. However, the Oldsmobile Jetfire's legacy lives on, as it paved the way for the development and widespread adoption of turbocharging technology in the automotive industry. Today, turbocharged engines are commonplace, offering a blend of performance and efficiency that is a direct descendant of the pioneering work done with the Jetfire. #milestonesinhistory #automotivehistory #OldsmobileJetfire #turbocharginginnovation #engineeringbreakthrough #TurboRocketFluid #turbopioneers #GeneralMotorsLegacy

Great Special Report on Fleet Electrification from Fleet News. https://lnkd.in/eP4KF4cf There are many challenges to eLCV adoption as the article on p24 details. Balanced article on Hydrogen (p16) and yes there are many hurdles ahead for FCEV, but also BEV. And to be clear Stellantis is only working on FCEV for Medium and Large Vans. Not Small Vans. Not Cars. BEV will dominate but FCEV will be an important contribution. Coincidentally we're hosting a webinar on Hydrogen tomorrow ... https://lnkd.in/eQjVypCa
