"25 Things to Consider When Transitioning to Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE) in 2025" As we approach 2025, many spine surgeons are contemplating making the shift from Open Spine Surgery or Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) to Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy (UBE). This technique represents a paradigm shift in spine surgery. However, the transition requires a shift in mindset, skillset, and workflow. Here are 25 key considerations to help you make the leap AO Spine Jin-Sung (LUKE) Kim Eduardo Moreira Pinto Guillaume LONJON Dimitrios Marinopoulos Elsa González Pérez Jose L Sanmillan Xavier A. Classification of IOLs and accurate terminology has been one of the most debated topics in our field lately. We were privileged to have representatives from both The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) leadership; Burkhard Dick, Joaquín Fernández, MD MSc PhD 🇪🇺, Daniel Chang, Douglas Koch, discussing this critical issue in our latest #EyeJC. It was great to hear that the two societies will collaborate on a unified #nomenclature along with industry leaders to ensure scientific accuracy, clarity but also better and more simplified communication for surgeons and patients. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/exMgaBBB JCRS Journal Publication: https://lnkd.in/eYZFJFVP #premiumIOLs #intraocularlens #cataractsurgery #lensbasedsurgery #presbyopia #presbyopiacorrection #multifocalIOLs #EDOF #rangeoffield #depthoffield #refractivesurgery

#Intraoperative ultrasound is a simple option that can instantly provide the surgeon with real time valuable information - either to assess the degree of decompression, locate the tumour (…or even a disc fragment), see the vessels, help with important decisions intraoperatively etc. After using it for two decades in brain and spine I am amazed to witness the progress in the image quality and strongly believe that all spinal surgeons should be comfortable using it. Great to see AO Spine working on implementing this on a wider scale! #ultrasound #spinesurgery
Michael Fehlings, Jim Guest along with Brian Kwon, Jefferson Wilson, and Christoph Hofstetter will be delivering a course on the interoperative use of ultrasound to optimize surgery and examine injury morphology at GSC in Bangkok, taking place May 15. Who should attend? This course is targeted at participants at all levels of spine surgery who would like to advance their knowledge in the use of intraoperative ultrasound to confirm the achievement of adequate decompression. Dr. Andrew Chan, MD, co-director of Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery at Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia, recently performed a circumferential minimally invasive spinal fusion on a patient using custom 3D printed interbody cages. The surgery was performed on a patient with severe disc degeneration from L3-S1. Dr. Chan, one of the few physicians across the country using this technology, was able to precisely match bone shape, improve compression of the nerve, and realign the spine by using AI to create a 3D image of the patient’s spinal space.
