🌟 Reflections on .NET Conf South Africa 2024 🌟 Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to attend .NET Conf South Africa, and I’m still buzzing with inspiration! 🎉 This conference was a melting pot of innovation, technology, and community, bringing together some of the brightest minds in the .NET ecosystem 🚀 . Highlights for me included 💡 : 🎤 Andrew La Grange talk on the evolution of .NET from its Windows roots to becoming a versatile, cloud-native platform. It was fascinating to learn how .NET has embraced modern paradigms like microservices, containerization, and AI integration through ML.NET to thrive in today’s multi-platform world. 🤖Carike Botha An insightful session on building custom AI copilots with Teams AI Library, .NET, and Azure OpenAI. This session demonstrated practical techniques for integrating Generative AI to enhance productivity and collaboration. 🔓 Stian Le Roux: A game-changer for developers managing complex APIs. His session explored how shared utilities and auto-generated API clients can eliminate duplication and streamline communication between services. 🗂️ Michael Johnson: A fascinating look at five types of databases beyond relational models. His insights helped clarify how selecting the right database architecture can optimize applications for specific requirements. As someone working on solutions that involve integrating advanced features and optimizing performance, I found these discussions particularly relevant and inspiring. 📒 The event was a perfect blend of technical insights and future-focused discussions, and it reinforced my passion for technology and continuous learning. A huge thank you to the organizers Allan Pead Wouter Grove (PhD) The Future-Innovation Lab, speakers Neil Thompson Niels Berglund Hennie Francis, and everyone who made this event possible. For nearly a decade now, my conviction that open-source represents the future has only strengthened. AI is no exception. The Linux Foundation's latest initiative, the Open Model Initiative (OMI), is a testament to this belief. It aims to keep AI models open and accessible, preventing proprietary lock-in and fostering innovation and collaboration. By promoting openly licensed AI models, the initiative seeks to create a more transparent and equitable technological landscape, empowering developers to build on shared resources. This effort addresses barriers to enterprise adoption by eliminating recurring costs and licensing restrictions, ultimately driving widespread innovation in the AI community. 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘅 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 The #Linux Foundation is now hosting the Open Model Initiative (OMI) to make it easier for developers to access open-source AI models. Launched by Invoke, CivitAI, and Comfy Org, OMI aims to provide models with open licenses,allowing for creativity and innovation without restrictive licensing. By joining forces with the Linux Foundation, OMI is set to enhance #AI accessibility, promote open collaboration, and advance AI research. Current goals include establishing governance, creating standards for interoperability, and releasing an alpha model by year-end. "We believe open source is the key to ensuring AI benefits everyone," said Kent Keirsey, #CEO of Invoke.
