📝🌲 New carbon report released🌲📝🌲 Arbor Custom Analytics conducted analyses in support of the report "Estimating current and future carbon stocks and emissions in Minnesota forests and forest products under multiple management scenarios". Specifically, we lead the analysis of forestry data and scenario modeling using the Forest Vegetation Simulator, highlighting forest management differences on forest carbon stocks and sequestration patterns. Modeling results show the highest forest carbon storage and sequestration rates to occur from 2025 to 2050, aligning with Minnesota’s goal to become carbon neutral in that time period. Results show long-term increases in carbon storage both within forests and in harvested wood products. Thanks, Minnesota Forest Resources Council for supporting and leading this effort! Chester County Parks and Preservation announced that the county preserved over 500 acres of farmland in 2024! Their agricultural land preservation team works hand-in-hand with farmers to strengthen the county's farm economy and protect prime farmland under guidance from the Ag Land Preservation Board. These efforts also support the goals in the county's comprehensive plan, #Landscapes3.

We’re meant to work the land, but that work often requires money… and its OKAY to profit from the land (in fact its advisable!) Genesis 2:15, work the land. Matthew 25:14-30, grow our financial resources. Proverbs 21:5, diligent plans profit Proverbs 12:10, care for animals too Its the LOVE OF money which is the root of all evil. (1 Timothy 6:10) and can be a slippery slope if were not careful. HOWEVER, growing timber for profit AND pursuing conservation are not contradictory goals…. Gaining revenue from the land doesnt make you a greedy dictator of the land. Money is a tool that allows our land to be successfully sustained…. There are two key things in this New York Times story by Cara Buckley that organizations working in restoration already know - and one thing they don't seem to get: 🌳 If you want to restore nature, ask the local community what it needs. 🐻 Build it and they will come: restore the forest, and wildlife will return. But here’s what so many don't seem to get (yet): This story would not exist without the data. So here’s the third takeaway: For the love of nature, find a way to document and measure your work. The project in this story is actually quite small yet earned New York Times coverage - because they had data. And simple data! Just camera traps. Even though we “know” that community-led/centered approaches work, we still have an obligation to prove it ... for the donors who support it, for the journalists who WANT to report on it ... for the sake of science! And, perhaps most importantly, so that local communities can shine like they do in this great piece. https://lnkd.in/eXPWmc3Q

3 times this week I heard "you are the first First Nation to contact us on this issue" as Constance Lake First Nation reaches out creatively to find financial and capacity resources to address some of the urgent challenges impacting the membership. NOT JUST FROM GOVERNMENT! Chief Allen presses us to 'set precedents' which gives us the freedom to think and act creatively to serve the Nation's needs. We don't just reach out for the sake of reaching out to appear busy. We do our homework and bring win -win- win to the table. Areas of focus - Health, wellness and healing is our first priority. Seeking 1. Capital 2. Sustainable opex budgets and 3. people/ programs. - Food security - Economic diversity, getting CLFNs fair share of forestry operations and end products and expanding beyond forestry and natural resources - Procurements, we are working to turn words we hear about a 5% special allocation to Indigenous owned businesses into contracts - Infrastructure, clean energy corridor, housing, roads, digital - Tourism and land stewardship. Across the State, CMAs are working together to tackle big issues - like connecting catchments and communities and partnering to protect them. The Lower Kiewa Catchment Stewardship Plan involves representation from 11 organisations including community, volunteer groups, Landcare, local councils, agriculture industry and government agencies. Six new landholder projects were developed to support 4.2 kilometres of fencing and 15.9 hectares of both revegetation and woody weed control. There are now 11 landholders signed up to Management Agreements, increasing the number of areas fenced and revegetated.
