Eating veggie? Your friends probably will too... A new study from Joana Wensing and her team at the University of Maastricht has shown that: 🥗 Individuals are much more likely to eat vegetarian when others in their company also eat vegetarian. (see graph) 😌 The likelihood of eating vegetarian decreases when people are happy, but increases when people are more relaxed during meals. 🍽 Vegetarian meal choices are less likely at lunch and dinner, at restaurants, and when others are present. Some interesting discoveries, and some good learnings in to how emotions and social settings can influence more sustainable consumption. 💪 The stand out finding? We should be leading by example. Simply put, to inspire vegetarian eating amongst others, we must first show them the way! Thank you Sophie Attwood for sharing the research. Paper in the comments. #behaviourchange #sustainableeating

🌍 World Food Day | Young Artists’ Food Thalis Celebrate Nutrition, Bengali Sweets, and Food Sustainability! 🌱 Join us as we celebrate World Food Day at Sankrail, where young artists creatively illustrated their ideal food thali filled with nutritious choices and cultural favorites. Inspired by the FAO’s “drawing plate” concept, Samposhyam Foundation added a unique twist by interviewing the children about their thalis. Each child shared why they chose specific foods and how these foods contribute to their health and well-being. These colorful thalis showcased a variety of foods—leafy greens, lentils, fruits, and even traditional Bengali sweets! The kids described their love for sweets like sandesh, rosogolla, and mishti doi, highlighting them as delicious treats enjoyed in moderation. Their inclusion of sweets reflects a balance between nutrition and the cultural joys of food. Many also added coconut water as a natural hydrating choice, rich in nutrients. Through their art, the children delivered a meaningful message: food is precious, don’t waste it. They emphasized the importance of enjoying every meal with gratitude and sharing nutritious food with those in need. Their drawings reflect a thoughtful understanding of dietary diversity, balanced portions, and the cultural connection to food. Let’s honor these young voices advocating for a balanced, mindful approach to eating—one that values tradition, health, and sustainability. 💡 Celebrate food variety, enjoy cultural treats responsibly, and work toward a sustainable food future for all! #WorldFoodDay #FAO #HealthyThali #BengaliSweets #FoodDiversity #YouthVoices #NutritionAwareness #SustainableEating #SamposhyamFoundation #StopFoodWaste

It’s a question I often hear: What about non-vegan guests at a vegan wedding? How can we make sure everyone feels included and satisfied? It’s a fair point, and I’m always excited to explore it. When a vegan attends a non-vegan wedding, they’re usually content with the “side dishes.” But for a vegan wedding, the goal isn’t just to impress—crafting a menu that nourishes, sustains, and respects our ecosystems and communities. On the other hand, opting for vegan menus with processed ingredients might reduce costs, but it misses the chance to create a genuine experience that uplifts and nourishes guests through thoughtful, whole-food choices. A plant-based menu done right can offer a variety of flavors and textures, celebrating local produce and sustainable choices that make everyone feel included, valued, and nourished. What would make you feel truly included and inspired at a plant-based event? #PlantBasedCatering #SustainableCelebrations #EcoFriendlyWeddings
