Our first installation in Denmark!  It is with great excitement that we have signed a contract with Ebeltoft Fjernvarme to install an ORC turbine from Againity. The ORC turbine will be connected to the plant's wood chip boiler with a temperature of supplied water at 108°C - this will generate an installed power output of 124 kW. Thank you Ebeltoft Fjernvarme for trusting us, we are looking forward to the continued cooperation in Denmark. Together we increase the share of green electricity and contribute to an energy production that benefits the climate. While I am happy to see developments like this one happening in Italy, I also have memories of the Italian "not in my backyard" attitude, that caused a lot of grief and money spent on projects that never materialized. The additional comment is on the market; will the energy produced in the South of Italy be able to be sold to markets other than Italy, or is it all going to be used locally? Did you know that #clean, #green, and #renewable #energy are different?🤔 Well, they are! Read on. #Clean_Energy is electricity that does not create any greenhouse gasses during its production – although it is not necessarily renewable. While clean energy often includes renewable sources, it can also encompass other low-emission technologies, such as #nuclear power or advanced natural gas technologies with carbon capture and storage. The focus is promoting technologies that reduce emissions and curbs environmental impacts. #Renewable_Energy is electricity produced from natural sources that either replenish themselves over short periods or never run out at all. Forms of generation are solar, wind, hydro (water), geothermal (heat), and biomass (plant and waste material). However, the technologies used in exploring these renewable sources could contribute to environmental impacts. Solar can affect land use while hydro can affect biodiversity. #Green_energy is a broad term that refers to energy derived from renewable and sustainable sources, with minimal negative impact on the environment. The key point is that it does not only represent the energy source with the best environmental impact but it is also renewable. Insightful, right? Well, our desire is to ensure that we ramp up all types of energy (clean, green, and renewables) to meet the 2030 Agenda! It doesn't matter what term we call it 😂 . Air Products Benelux hosted The Hague Energized, an event dedicated to fostering discussions crucial for advancing collaborative efforts towards a sustainable energy future. Our CCS Project Manager, Crystal Dolphin, shared her views about the event and the role of hydrogen on the road to carbon zero. During the event, our Director of Tonnage Business Northern Continent, Paul Hoogeveen, and Business Development Manager Maritime, Rogier Blokdijk, presented how Air Products is accelerating the energy transition with our renewable and blue hydrogen production projects. The Hague Energized is organised by The Hague & Partners in collaboration with young professionals from The Hague's energy industry. I had the privilege of giving a GRIDTech Talk at the #GRIDTech2024 in Brussels. Kind thanks to all the participants and presenters, it was really a great, warm event with good discussions. I could write a lot about all the possible aspects that I started to think about after the event, but perhaps I focus on technology neutrality. This was raised in practically all the sessions and for example in the opening remarks. Yet, it looks like we lack an understanding of how renewable hydrogen can benefit from low-carbon hydrogen and how this should be taken into account when planning for future hydrogen-based energy systems. We also need to change our thinking based on the colors, where "green" is always better than "others". Instead, we should talk about the numbers, like CO2 emissions based on life-cycle assessments. Where the emissions of "green" are really low while using only, say, wind energy, the operations during "dunkelflaute" require supplemental power to be used. Eventually, this will raise the emissions of the electrolysis hydrogen closer to the limit stated in the regulation, 3.4 kgCO2e/kgH2. On the other hand, the hydrogen produced by Hycamite has less emissions than 1 kgCO2e/kgH2. In some cases, we have reached even below 0.2 in our site evaluations. Low-carbon hydrogen can really be worth its name.
