Highlights from the CCRI Coordination and Support Workshop in Brussels Last week, Paul Stern, Executive Assistant at Venionaire Capital, represented Venionaire Capital and the InvestCEC project at the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) Coordination and Support Workshop in Brussels. The InvestCEC project aims to create a replicable framework for implementing circular economy initiatives across cities and regions, with Venionaire Capital leading the establishment of a circular economy fund as part of the process. The day in Brussels kicked off with insights into challenges and opportunities in the circular economy from the European Commission. This was followed by a plenary session on 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, where experts shared strategies for funding and pitching circular projects. Participants engaged in thematic working groups to tackle challenges and explore innovative solutions in areas like Circular Bioeconomy and Circular Resource Management. Furthermore, inspiring success stories showcased how cities and regions have implemented scalable circular economy innovations, demonstrating real-world impact and potential for replication. We thank the CCRI team, partners, and all participants for their contributions to this meaningful event. Together, we are taking steps to drive innovation and create a sustainable future. I'm thrilled to announce that the study I supported alongside my esteemed partners from STOA has been officially published! 📚✨ Our study, titled "Closing the Blue Loops: Responsible and Sustainable Innovation in the Fields of Water and Ocean," evaluates the need and scope for an EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) focused on water, marine, and maritime areas (KIC WMM). This report identifies existing gaps in innovation ecosystems and recommends thematic focus areas with the highest potential for technological development, market deployment, and benefits for EU citizens. Some key elements of our study include: 🔍 Analysis of key stakeholders, public engagement methods, funding mechanisms, and legal and regulatory barriers. 🌐 Policy recommendations to foster innovation and market deployment in alignment with the European Green Deal and other EU strategies. 💡 Highlighting high-impact technologies for sustainability goals and identifying areas needing further research and regulatory changes. Personally, I contributed to the analysis (SWOT, Gap analysis, Survey) and explored the links between the three components of the triple helix of innovation: Research, Training, and Industries. My particular focus was on the industrial branch within the technological and socio-economic context of the water, marine, and maritime sectors. I’m eagerly looking forward to discovering the proposals from various EU partners to turn this KIC into a reality. These collaborations aim to establish Co-Location Centers and Innovation Hubs that will drive sustainable advancements in the global blue economy. 🌊💧🚀 Thank you to everyone involved in making this study possible, and I can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on our industry! 📖 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gVY_skGR Siri Granum Carson Richard Sempéré Pentti Kujala Sveinung Sægrov #Innovation #Sustainability #WMMKIC #BlueEconomy #STOA #EUInnovation

🌍 On November 6th 2024, ICLEI Europe participated in the TIPS4PED general assembly in Barcelona; a Horizon-funded project focusing on positive energy districts where ICLEI is a partner. During the assembly, I facilitated a workshop on relevant policies featuring two speakers: 🔹 Ivy Yang, PhD, representing our sister project BIPED, shared her work on policies and the EU policy landscape for digitalisation. 🔹 Kirsten Stuckenhoff, representing the NetZeroCitiesEU initiative, presenting her policy work related to the Mission. Our discussions culminated in a collaborative workshop, reflecting on how EU policies influence our project and exploring pathways to leverage these frameworks for greater impact. The key takeaway? The critical importance of ongoing collaboration with sister projects and initiatives like Net Zero Cities to create meaningful materials together. Looking forward to building on these discussions and advancing towards positive energy districts! 🚀 #PositiveEnergyDistricts #Tips4PED #NetZeroCities #BIPED #PolicyInnovation #EUProjects

🚀 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗢𝗘𝗖𝗗 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, "𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝘄- 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲-𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀" This study by Teodora Diana Chis and coauthors fills a gap in the open innovation literature, one we also identified while working on our 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘧𝘳𝘪-𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘦 StateUp Challenge Works report. Most reviews on challenge prizes as mechanisms for spurring or scaling innovation tend to focus on high-income countries, but this report shifts the spotlight to low- and middle-income nations. What really resonates with me is the report’s focus on how prizes can impact broader innovation ecosystems. Often, we concentrate on technology-, entrepreneur-, or startup-level outcomes, without considering how these prizes may shape the contexts in which they operate. This is an important step toward a deeper understanding of challenge prize's role in fostering transformative change through social innovation. 🌍💡 #OpenInnovation #ChallengePrizes #InnovationEcosystems #OECD #GlobalDevelopment #ScalingInnovation #InclusiveInnovation
