In August 2024, K.D. Feddersen Holding GmbH, parent company of the internationally active Feddersen Group, which specialises in the trade and production of engineering plastics, granted a convertible loan to the Danish company Trebo ApS, which is to be transformed into shares in the company as part of the next financing phase. Trebo helps plastics processors to sort their mixed or multi-component waste back into mono-material fractions, thereby reducing the carbon footprint and the need for new materials. #sustainablepackaging #recyclability #packaging #sustainability #circulareconomy #recycledmaterials #resourceefficiency

Just in case you didn't know, Big Idea Ventures is also building new companies in rural communities with world class universities and business founders. This includes new companies in versatile bio-based packaging materials meeting the industry's needs, sustainable materials such as adhesives and coatings, agriculture, and food. Add a comment if you have questions. Tom Mastrobuoni
Phasing out petroleum-based plastics isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. It requires a diverse portfolio of high-performance materials—from foams and coatings to films and rigid substrates. Thats why we're hard at work developing versatile bio-based packaging materials to meet the industry's needs. Our partners at Big Idea Ventures GFRP toured our North Carolina lab today to see our prototypes in action. We're fortunate to have venture partners aligned in our mission to create a world where plastics aren't forever, rather, they are replenished through our food systems. Did you already see our news on our collaboration with Borealis and Covestro to enable the recycling of discarded tires into high-quality plastics for automotive applications? When no longer fit for use, tires are liquefied by means of chemical recycling and processed into base chemicals and further into polycarbonates of high purity. These can then be used in various automotive applications, from parts of headlamps to radiator grilles. 🚗♻ Wish to know more, see our release 👉🏻 https://bit.ly/3ySSj8R “This project can serve as a blueprint when it comes to establishing circularity in the field of plastics in cars,” says Jeroen Verhoeven, Vice President Value Chain Development for polymers and chemicals business at Neste. “This is good news for the polymers and automotive industries as well as for the environment.” The more we recycle, the less virgin fossil resources are needed! Hope to see many more these types of collaborations in the near future! 🌍🙌 #recycling #circularity #sustainability

Here very concrete example about circularity. With great partners we can turn old tires into new car parts 💚🌎👏.

Earlier this year, we wrapped up our first trial runs of transforming pyrolysis oil from discarded tires into high quality feedstock for polymers and chemicals 🚗 Now, we’re excited to announce a project agreement with our amazing partners Borealis and Covestro! Our goal? To enable the recycling of discarded tires into high-quality plastics for automotive applications - through chemical recycling. Together, we’re paving the way for discarded tires to become essential parts of cars again – like headlamps and radiator grilles, thanks to polycarbonate-based solutions ♻️ As our colleague Jeroen C. Verhoeven puts it: “This project shows how low-quality waste materials can be turned into very high-quality plastics. This is good news for the polymers and automotive industries as well as for the environment.” Want to drive towards a more sustainable future? Happy having Ben Cooke from The Times visiting our production facilities in Knivsta this morning! Interesting discussions about the green transition and how our technology with lignin transformed into a bio-based plastic can reduce carbon emission in the plastics industry. #LigninIndustries #ReplacingFossilPlastics #CO2reduction

Last week part of Team Chemistry attended the Circular Plastics Project Launch in Utrecht. Through the Circular Plastics NL subsidy program, four projects have been awarded grants: UPTYRE (€1.4 million), Monitoring Quality in Plastic Recycling (€1.9 million), TEXPOWER (€4.7 million), SKILLS (€2.9 million) and Cap-to-cap (€ 7.4 million). Additionally, Circular Plastics NL has earmarked €30 million for a new call in 2024, demonstrating a continued commitment to driving innovation in the plastic industry by identifying key topics and challenges in the market. Following a positive evaluation of the program's interim review, a budget of €43 million is expected for the periods 2025 and 2026. #Subsidy #Grantwriting #Innovation #CircularPlastic #PlasticRecycling

During last weeks #PlasticsTreaty INC4-meeting I talked with Steve Toloken from Plastics News on the recent UN Environment Programme science report categorised #EPS (Expanded #polystyrene) transport #packaging as “#recycled at scale and in practice” on a global level. This makes EPS one of only six plastic packagings, which is widely regarded as recyclable. It is a tipping point for the EPS industry, as we no longer need to discuss if EPS can be part of the #circulareconomy! We can now focus on increasing #recycling and expanding coverage. The aim is of course to achieve app. 90% effective recycling rate, such as in Norway and Switzerland! In Denmark at EPS-branchen - en del af Plastindustrien we estimate we are close and will achieve this with roll out of EPR (extended producer responsibility). Proud to represent EUMEPS as part of GESA in the process. Read the interesting conversation between Steve, Betsy Bowers from EPS INDUSTRY ALLIANCE INC and Becher Townshend from Expanded Polystyrene Australia (EPSA). https://lnkd.in/deV-C2fW

this is an important step. the next in creating a fully integrated Polymers business that creates a route to food contact grade recycled plastics in the four major packaging plastics.
📢 We're delighted to announce that Viridor has officially taken full ownership of Quantafuel AS as it delists from the Oslo Stock Exchange. 🗣 Lee Hodder, Managing Director of Viridor Polymers, says: "This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Quantafuel's integration into Viridor Polymers solidifies our position as a key player in the polymers reprocessing sector and underscores our commitment to innovation and a circular plastic economy." ♻ Viridor's strategic acquisition of Quantafuel aligns with our ambitious goal to spearhead innovation in plastics recycling and achieve full circularity across all four major plastics by 2025.
