Macro-regional strategies can be both 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 #EU. 💬 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Youth and civil society bring vital energy and fresh ideas to the 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲. Their diverse perspectives foster innovative solutions that address real needs. Additionally, civil society can influence policy priorities by expressing interest in specific areas, signaling to policymakers the community's key concerns. ✍ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞: While youth and civil society bring strength in ideation, 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 in legal frameworks and governance. By differentiating these phases, we can maximize impact: community-driven concepts backed by expert-led implementation. 📢 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: Politicians have a vital role in identifying effective solutions and 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐔. By championing tested, scalable solutions from one region to others, they help expand impact. Politicians can promote civil society innovations, ensuring they become part of a broader EU transformation rather than isolated successes.   Let’s advocate for a 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 that not only highlights the innovative efforts of youth and civil society but also makes them visible to a wider audience.   It was an honor to speak at the #EUSBSRForum2024 for the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region in Visby. "Is there hope in a society plagued by #polarisation, aggression, and growing geopolitical tensions?" 🌐 This is the question addressed by sociologist and former Minister of Universities Manuel Castells during the keynote conference “Is there hope? Polarisation and crisis of #democracy: causes and possible solutions,” organised by Re-Imagine Europa, the Social Observatory of the Fundación ”la Caixa”, and the LECE Spanish Committee at the CaixaForum Macaya in Barcelona.   The discussion covered the urgent need for global solutions, from climate crises to #geopolitical conflicts. While warning against the violence of extreme polarisation, Professor Castells invited political forces to engage in constructive #dialogue. 👏 4th and final day of #CivSocWeek! These four days have originated an enlightening intergenerational #dialogue between people from different backgrounds with a common goal: to shape the #future of Europe. Under the title "Rise Up for Democracy", there were some lines that caught my attention & made me ponder. Let me share them with you: - A strong, experienced and politically well-connected #CivilSociety is needed. Civil Society brings an evidence-based connection to reality, as #CSOs engage in daily dialogue with citizens in a multi-stakeholder approach. - #Democracy gives us the space to participate, the #freedom. Due to the development of #AI and #digital transition, relations between governments and civil society are changing, we need to preserve freedom of expression. - Beyond fears and anxieties, we need to #create and co-create. In this sense, paying attention to the losers of policy change is crucial to avoid (democratic, environmental, etc.) backlashes. The early insights delivered during the #ClosingSession are a succinct version of #CivilSociety's recommendations and expectations for the next #EU leaders. 🧵 Last month, we welcomed the new MEPs at the #MeetAndSip event together with VOICE and CONCORD to share our important messages on the important role of civil society organisations! Do you want a recap of the key messages we shared? Read below: 🌍 The #EU needs to stand firm in its commitment to the #2030Agenda to reduce global inequality and create a more equitable world for all.  🤝 Civil society is a key partner. The EU must recognise the CSOs role in defending civic space and democracy while ensuring sufficient CSO funding 🌱 Policy coherence for sustainable development is essential. All our decisions must align with our broader goals of sustainability and fairness. ✌️ Long-term support for sustainable #peace efforts is crucial, with the EU backing these with financial commitments to ensure lasting impact. 🛡️ The EU must integrate human security and #conflictsensitivity into all external actions, ensuring all engagements are conflict-aware. 🚨 the EU must expand the space for principled humanitarian action, ensuring responses are needs-based and shielded from political or economic influences. 💰 The growing #humanitarian funding gap is a challenge. We need funding that matches real needs, free from politically motivated reallocation. 🌍🌿 The rise in conflicts and climate-related disasters demands a multisectoral, prevention-oriented, and nexus approach to tackle root causes.

Our Future Pioneers Network, a cohort of early adopters, officials and politicians, convened to provide updates on their work towards the Summit of the Future. Here’s what happened in June: 🔴 We celebrated our communities' achievements, who have engaged with politicians in Cameroon, advocated for a bill for the well-being of future generations in Australia Taylor Dee Hawkins and presented the Inter-factional Union of the Parliament of Ukraine "Strategic Foresight of Ukraine" Ivan Vdovychenko 🔴 We discussed the need for strong implementation structures and advocated for champion countries to lead the future generations agenda at a UN level, with detailed updates on the Summit of The Future and Declaration on Future Generations 🔴 We gained insightful perspectives from Brazil on social participation in international processes like the G20 and Ireland on their progress with future generations legislation and the importance of political leadership. It was a pleasure to learn from Gustavo Westmann and Marc Ó Cathasaigh 🔴 We received updates from our network weavers on activities and initiatives in the African, European, and Latin American regions, fostering a global community committed to this cause -- Are you a politician, official or policy writer? Yesterday, the hearing of the Commissioner-designate for international partnerships Jozef Sikela took place. Having reflected on the hearing, we have mixed feelings... 💭 While many of the commitments made by Mr Síkela sound promising, it's clear that there is a lot of room for improvement. We welcome: 🌍 The renewed commitment to #Agenda2030 and the eradication of poverty and inequalities. 🤝 The emphasis placed on mutually beneficial partnerships with partner countries. 💸 The intention to engage with civil society and equip CSOs with adequate funding. ⚙️ The commitment to implementing the GAPIII and designing a GAPIV in a timely manner. However, some aspects of the hearing raised concerns. ❌ There was no clear vision expressed around how criticisms of the Global Gateway will be addressed. ❌ There is a plan to strengthen the role of the private sector in international partnerships with no plan to implement sufficient accountability measures. ❌ There is a worrying lack of clarity around how human rights will be placed above European interests in its engagement with partner countries. We are keen to collaborate with Mr Síkela to ensure that the needs and priorities of partner countries are put at the centre of international partnerships.
