The US military once aired two very different promotional videos. The first, a recruiting ad for the Marine Corps, showed Marines on foot, in armored vehicles, and in aircraft all moving in an open desert "toward the sounds of chaos." The second, an ad for the Navy SEALs, showed no one at all. There is an empty beach in the night; bootprints appear briefly, and then are washed away again by the next wave. Formally, Marines and SEALs have different missions. They are, however, both selective fighting forces. These ads portray a difference not in substance, but of style. Style is an underappreciated element of strategy. There are times to keep big changes close to your chest, and times to widely socialize them. Just like DOD, knowing when to deploy each approach comes down to understanding not just what you want to achieve, but the greater context that it must be achieved within. "Women are not just small men; we have different builds,” said Katherine Kuzminski, director of the Military, Veterans, and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security. The Navy has launched a five-year Size Modernization Program to address long-standing issues with women’s uniform fit and comfort. Initial changes include a redesigned summer white overblouse, better-fitting operational overblouses, and updated service slacks with back pockets—all informed by years of sailor feedback. This initiative reflects a broader push across the military to better equip women—whether through tailored uniforms or tactical gear—to reduce injuries and improve operational readiness. HAPPY MONDAY/HAPPY ARMED FORCES DAY!!!!! On this day in 1950, President Harry S. Truman established Armed Forces Day. Peering through literature reviews gives you a different view of those who served. When you FOCUS, you find that these leaders cared about the military. The theme of the first Armed Forces Day was “Teamed for Defense,” and it had a three-fold mission:   1. To celebrate and recognize all Americans serving in uniform, as well as those who had served before. 2. To bring citizens closer to their military by hosting base open houses and public displays of new military technology.  3.
