😊 Exciting advancements in cardiovascular imaging! This study highlights groundbreaking improvements in pulmonary vein contrast-enhanced MRA (PV CE-MRA) for safer, high-quality scans. A key innovation is the implementation of non-rigid motion correction using image navigators (iNAVs), which enables reliable motion correction even during free-breathing conditions. The technique utilizes 3D Cartesian sampling with spiral order (VD-CASPR), resulting in highly reproducible outcomes. In a cohort of 65 patients, each scan was completed in just 4 minutes, with image reconstruction taking less than 2 minutes per dataset. Notably, 95% of the images were rated as good or excellent, underscoring the technique's efficiency and reliability. Check out the full study: https://lnkd.in/gsBm6ZkY. 📢 New paper alert 📢 I am excited to share that we have taken a next step in expanding the applicability of our radiation-sensitive ultrasound contrast agents towards conventional photon radiotherapy, eventually aiming for safer and more effective radiotherapy treatments. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eB9RVP7P In particular, by dispersing superheated nanodroplets in gel phantoms and irradiating them with clinical photon beams at various temperatures, we were able to demonstrate their sensitivity to both photoneutrons (at elevated photon energies >8 MV) and secondary electrons. Moreover, the use of online high-frame rate ultrasound imaging allowed to detect and localize individual vaporization events, outperforming conventional grey value read-outs. Unfortunately, limited reproducibility (likely related to the suboptimal nanodroplet formulation) prevented to extract reliable dose-response relationships. Yet, we hope that our results can spark the interest in the development of more suitable nanodroplet formulations for (in vivo) radiation sensing & related theranostic applications. As always, it was a pleasure to collaborate with shared first-author Sophie Heymans and all other co-authors, among which special thanks go to my promotors prof. Edmond Sterpin and prof. Uwe Himmelreich. For more information or potential interest for collaboration, please do not hesitate to reach out. Have a great day! 🌞 #cancerresearch #photontherapy #radiotherapy #nanodroplets #ultrasound #ultrasoundimaging

4D Flow MRI Reflects Physiological Hemodynamics for the Diagnosis and Management of Portosystemic Shunts https://lnkd.in/gGQvHGTN A paper published by Dr. Atsushi Higaki from Kawasaki Medical University et al reported that a patient with portosystemic shunt and hepatic encephalopathy underwent open mesenteric vein ligation, resulting in improved portal flow and blood ammonia. In this case, 4D flow MRI was a valuable diagnostic and follow-up tool, enabling the visualization and quantification of physiological portal hemodynamics with features distinct from those of contrast-enhanced CT and digital subtraction angiography. This report highlights the value of 4D flow MRI in managing portosystemic shunts. 4D flow MRI is an innovative imaging method that can retrospectively assess physiological hemodynamics in a detailed, comprehensive, and simultaneous manner. It can be beneficial in the treatment planning and follow-up of patients with portosystemic shunts with complex collateral circulation. #4DFlow #MRMS #Shunt

Paper alert #msGuide: We introduce Performance Assessment and Quality Control of #Fluorescence Molecular #Endoscopy with a Multi-Parametric Rigid #Standard. Pubished in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging https://lnkd.in/eRJkHZXC The use of composite fluorescence standards before endoscopic procedures can ensure that an #FME system meets the performance criteria and that components prone to performance degradation are replaced in time, avoiding disruption of clinical endoscopy logistics. This will help overcome a major barrier for the translation of FME into the clinics.
