Innovating Agriculture: GEN21 Mineral Solution PoC with Yukin Farm We are excited to announce our Proof of Concept (PoC) collaboration with Yukin Farm, one of Korea’s largest smart farms, spanning over 23,140 square meters and specializing in hydroponic paprika cultivation. This PoC, running from August 2024 to November 2024, aims to develop optimized natural mineral fertilizers and growth enhancers for smart farms and greenhouses. PoC Background: The global smart farming market is projected to grow at an annual rate of 13.7%, reaching approximately $5.471 billion by 2030. Despite this rapid growth, there are various challenges in operation. Among these, we aim to develop crop growth enhancers optimized for smart farms and greenhouses, enabling anyone to achieve high productivity and grow organic crops easily, even without specialized knowledge. Greeneye Technology, the pioneer of AI-enabled precision spraying technology that is proven to reduce herbicide use in farming by an average of 88%, announces the completion of a $20m funding round led by Israeli investment company Deep Insight. The investment will be used to significantly scale Greeneye’s operation in the U.S. and to advance the technology’s analytical capabilities and extend its usage to new inputs and crops. .Mitti Labs—a startup working on projects to tackle #methane emissions in rice farming—has raised a $3m seed round backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Voyager Ventures, Overview, and angel investors. The firm recently launched five projects across 30,000 hectares in India, with 10 more in the pipeline, and is working with Syngenta Foundation and Tilda rice maker Ebro Foods to train farmers in techniques it claims can reduce water use by 30% and methane emissions by 50%. These are measured using AI models trained on ground data and remote sensing to generate carbon credits, says the firm, which has been collaborating with Cornell University, the International Rice Research Institute, and USDA on methane abatement and measurement technologies. UPM has released its preliminary Q3 2024 results and adjusted its outlook for the year. The data highlights that UPM’s strategic shift to Market Pulp (UPM Fibres) has proven to be a wise decision. UPM Fibres sales were 20% higher than those of Communication Papers (Printing & Writing), and the EBIT was an impressive 140% greater. The “Other operations” segment, which includes Biochemicals, Biomedicals, Biofuels (advanced renewable), Forest, R&D, and new business development, showed significant volatility. A sales reduction of EUR 144 million from 2023 to 2024 resulted in a negative EBIT of EUR 114 million.
