Airbus has been awarded an 18-year contract by the UK Ministry of Defence of Defence (MOD) to deliver next-generation satellite modems for the Skynet military satellite communications (milsatcom) system. The new Future Protected Modem Type-A (FPMA) will replace the existing Paradigm Modem System and will support both the operational Skynet 5 satellites and the upcoming Skynet 6A satellite. The FPMA modem, designed, developed, and manufactured in the UK, will introduce enhanced capabilities for secure and resilient military communications. The advanced Software-Defined Radio (SDR) system supports multiple waveforms and enables secure internet protocol (IP) communications across commonly used frequency bands, including X-band. The FPMA modem has been developed to address evolving operational requirements. It includes features to counter sophisticated threats and is designed for use in maritime and ground-based environments. Another win for HERMTAC! We are thrilled to formally announce a prime award on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)’s $40M Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) providing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Internet Services. HermTac, one of three awardees, and the only small business awardee, was also awarded the first task order, worth $1.75M. This comes just a few months after our Direct to Phase II SBIR award through AFWERX and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) back in June.
