Denmark leads in innovation according to new research from IDA. This is not a surprise. Danish companies like Danfoss have led the way in R&D investment for years. This is key for competing globally when you are a Danish company. However, the EU as a whole is lagging behind the U.S., with China rapidly closing the gap. As Anders Christian Krüth Overvad notes in Børsen, we’re really good at research in Europe, but not at capitalizing and scaling up. Our own Kristian Strand, SVP and President of Danfoss’ Commercial Compressors division, Danfoss Climate Solutions, highlights to Louise With how Europe’s fragmented policies can make even straightforward goals complex. Sometimes, things that should be simple become unnecessarily complicated in Europe, he says. I agree, and that's why the Mario Draghi report on competitiveness is a great opportunity for Europe. It brings about so many great ideas and solutions. It’s also a chance for businesses to bring solutions to the table. That’s why I welcome Danfoss’ initiative with the International Energy Agency (IEA), BusinessEurope, and Danish Industry to bring 75 industry leaders to Sønderborg for 24-hours for the “Powering European Industry” summit: https://lnkd.in/dC4VUhcc For industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors, the discussion initiated by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to enhance competitiveness in Europe presents a historic opportunity to tackle the barriers to competitiveness like limited innovation, high energy prices and too much regulation that other countries don't have. I will join tomorrow when His Majesty the King of Denmark attends the summit. This is a great moment in European history to harness R&D and innovation beyond national borders and align with the next EU industrial strategy. Europe turned its fortune around in the 1980’s with the the adoption of the Single European Act. The EU can do it again.
