I’ve just successfully completed the Safe Cycling Infrastructure technical training course run by Safe System Solutions. Why did I do this training: Each year in Australia around 40 people riding their bikes are killed and more than 4,000 are hospitalised in road crashes. Riding a bike is a sustainable, healthy and socially equitable form of transport, and we need more people riding. Unfortunately, unsafe infrastructure is a major impediment to many people riding. We can design roads to be safer. We can reduce the chance of a crash, and the severity of any that still occur. This was an intensive online technical training course with theory, coursework, and a field exercise where we put our skills into practice.

Training to win a UCI Gran Fondo race. Here's a walk-through of how we prepared a masters cyclists for a UCI Gran Fondo race, which he ended up winning. Yet again, we focused on improving training fundamentals, in addition to some race craft. It's of course impossible to attribute the result to any particular aspect of what we did (n =1 can't prove effect). The progressive long run is a mental game—run each mile 5-10 seconds faster than the last mile. It’s especially acute on long runs because you end up running SO much faster at the end of the run than you do at the beginning of the run. This prepares you for race day by providing your mind with the context of what it’s like for a run to “feel” harder as you go along. This is the same feeling you’ll face in a marathon because you will not have trained for the last 6-10 miles previous to the race (marathon training plans typically have your longest training runs max out at 16-20 miles for long runs), therefore enduring progressively more difficult efforts to maintain a certain pace. For me today, I wanted to level out an average pace of 7:35 per mile across the entire run, which I was able to achieve today. Race day will be much harder as I’ll be aiming to maintain a 7:15/mile pace for 26.2 miles. That strategy will likely be upside down compared to this workout because the first 15 miles of the race are downhill, which will allow me to run in the 7:00-7:10 pace, then the last 10 miles I’ll likely ease down into the 7:15-7:25 pace range as the route flattens out. Just a little bit of training insight! 🏃♂️

My top 5 tips for anyone looking to do their first marathon: 1. Don't skip your weekly long run (20km+) 2. Do the long run at Zone 2 pace or slower. In simpler terms - you would easily be able to hold a conversation while running and you're not exhausted when finishing the run. 3. Take energy gels when training on the long runs not just race day to get your body used to them. Use the same ones you train with on race day. 4. Start to taper about 3 weeks before the race. If you don't think you've done enough training and there is less than 3 weeks to go, don't try to fit in more training. It's better to go into a marathon 5% undertrained than 5% overtrained 5. On race day forget about the crowd or people running past you. Run your own race. If you're struggling a lot 25km into it, you've started too fast or haven't done enough training #marathon #training

Many Golf Professionals get questions from their students or members about being able to gain clubhead speed as they get older. Many of our SuperSpeed users are over the age of 50. We have seen users of all ages gain speed due to training with our system, but we often get questions about our older golfers. They wonder if they can actually still gain speed at that age and if so what are some special considerations they should think about as they train. In this article, we will review some of the considerations to think about if you are working with older players or if you are an older player looking to gain speed. 🏔️ Being a Ski Instructor without ever seeing snow taught me a valuable lesson in… Sales! When I first started, I couldn’t even stop on my skis. It was both hilarious and frustrating 😂. I had to learn how to ski super fast. After a few days, I finally mastered how to stop. But who could I teach? Turns were still a challenge! 🤔 Well… there’s always someone at a different spot on the ladder. For me, it was kids aged 3 to 4. Their goal wasn’t even theirs—they couldn’t book or pay for the class. Their parents just wanted a moment to ski or relax on the mountain. So, I taught “pizza” 🍕 all day long. Eventually, I learned to turn! But I still couldn’t manage parallel skiing. That’s when I started teaching kids aged 4 to 6, who were learning how to balance on their skis 🎿. They needed help with coordination and, of course, wanted to have a great time. Now I can navigate trees and tackle moguls! 🌲⛷️ But I’m sure you get my point by now. Even if you think you’re not good enough, or that what you know is “common sense”… There’s always someone at another point on the ladder who can benefit from your knowledge, service, or skill. #sales #personalgrowth #learningjourney #skiinstructor #skillsdevelopment #careerlessons #skill #
