"With all the demands placed on ships today, the Labrax series is already a step ahead of what the future will bring. At the same time, the incredible fuel savings make it a clean ship. This not only saves us a lot in terms of emissions, but also in terms of operational costs. “I’ve seen some of the underwater footage from the CatchCam camera, and I could tell it is fit for purpose”, shares Lachlan Fetterplace. Winner of the CatchCam giveaway held back in November, he is now planning to deploy the camera in gillnet #fisheries in #Sweden. More specifically, Lachlan is looking into using #CatchCam to work alongside an electronic monitoring system. While the system onboard counts the bycatch, he reveals that this number is likely being underestimated: “We know some bycatch drops out as the net is retrieved and doesn’t make it above the surface,” so the underwater camera will help quantify those numbers. It's awesome to see CatchCam users innovating around how the visual data it captures can be combined with other datasets to fill knowledge gaps. In this case, Lachlan Fetterplace will be researching the logging of #bycatch numbers above, and now below, the waterline.
