The Two-Second Decision that Defined His Career 🌞 *Courtesies* Matthews, a smart Sales Manager, on a Sunday evening, was in the parking lot of a big shopping mall. The parking lot was packed. Cars were crawling with anxious drivers hunting for that one vacant slot to park. Matthew's, sharp and aggressive as he was, spotted a vacant space ahead and quickly zoomed in. But, he could also see that another car had reached that spot before him and the old man at the wheel was struggling to reverse his car into the same slot. Matthews beat the old man to it. Matthews felt jubilant - as we all sometimes do with life's little victories. The old man in the other car was very disappointed. He looked Matthews in the eye, but continued to search for another parking slot. Two days later, Matthews was preparing for one of the biggest moments of his career. He was close to winning a big contract for his company. And all that was left now was the formal handshake meeting with the client's CEO. As Mathews walked into the client's office with full confidence and offered his handshake to the CEO, he felt a sudden sense of discomfort. The CEO was the same man from whom he had snatched the parking slot on Sunday. Worse still, the Old man immediately recognized him. And you can guess what happened thereafter... Alas... if only Matthews had been polite enough to consider offering that Old Man the parking slot. The world is divided into two types of people: Those who push open a door, walk through and let it slam behind them. That's the 99% of the population. Well going into my 6th week in my new role at Great Bear Distribution Ltd. I had a lightbulb moment today, to suggest that not only am I back in the saddle, but the saddle feels like home... Let me set the scene, heading off at 630am for a customer meet at our #Hoddesdon #bonded #drinks #specialist site, when the temperature starts to creep ending at 31.5 degrees centigrade, and all of a sudden my car air con packs in, don't worry all under control, go #retro open windows for a 3 hour drive, all under control. Then the challenges appears when arriving at site, deaf in one ear due to wind noise, and also hay fever kicks in with windows open, okay don't panic, deaf in one ear can be an age thing, and I have hay fever tablets I can take, one down no difference, two down starts to work, but then start to feel sleepy, just before a customer visit, however the show goes on, fast forward home route and same outcome, I love this job, but remember folks a #logistics #sales person is for life not just for #seasonalpeaks, if you want some support to review your current #logistics #process reach out for more info, and whilst I am on a #bekind mood, also big shout out to all those people that bought a cabriolet on the basis that a few days a year you can drive in the UK with the top down, I feel your pain, with the windows in my car fully open, I can confirm that windscreen wash stings the eyes and tastes funny from the car in front.😁 . All that was left now was the formal handshake with the client's CEO. Yes it was the same man from whom he had snatched the parking slot on Sunday & you can guess what happened thereafter! If only Mathews had grown up with the HTDO habit! What's HTDO As you walk into an office or hotel the person walking in front holds the door open for you. Remember how good it makes you feel if only for that moment. We are all so preoccupied with ourselves & obsessed with getting ahead. A life-changing lesson they don't teach you in any School is 'Hold The Door Open' The world has two types -99% who push open a door walk through & let it slam behind them- 1% who hold it open to allow the next person to walk through. No matter what craft you carry, your connections in business matter

In July of 2018, I texted my wife a Craigslist ad for a VW bus and said, "I want to trade my truck for this." Which, rightfully so, was immediately met with a kind-hearted,  "Why don't we talk about this when we get off work." That evening, while walking our two dogs, my wife kicked off the conversation with a question,  "Why do you want to trade in your perfectly good truck for a not-so-perfect weird-looking 'bus'?" This question led to me sharing my desire for a life of adventure;  that bus very tangibly represented that to me,  and sitting in an office every day did not. Grace encouragingly responded to those desires, "Why would you settle for a representation of that adventure?  Why don't we do the thing for real?" Flash forward to October 2018:  We both quit our full-time jobs, sold our cars, found a renter for our house, and bought an RV. Dec. 1, 2018:  We pulled out of our driveway in a yellow Winnebago Brave (pictured), listening to "Drive" by Ben Rector. And here are some things I learned: Identify and express desires. Knowing what you want is great.  Being able to clearly communicate desires is invaluable. Be curious. Grace definitely thought getting a VW bus was a stupid idea, but instead of saying, "This is a stupid idea." she met me with, "Why do you want this?" and listened intently to my desires without judgment. Don't wait until someday to pursue what you want. Write down what you want.  Tell someone who cares about you.  Make decisions based on what you want. One of two things will happen: 1) You'll realize you don't actually want what you think you do or  2) You'll move closer to getting what you want Both are great outcomes.  -------- This photo was taken at Sagebrush Annie's Winery in Maricopa, CA, in April of 2019. 

Last week we broke our summer weekly sales record at The Spaniards Inn selling more than 85k in a week 🎉🥁 7 months ago in December I also led the Spaniards team which broke the all time weekly sales record piling in more than 100k in sales for the first time in the pub's history! 🥳 That's two records broken since becoming team leader at the Spaniards.😌 Truth be told the reason we were able to achieve these records is because of the amazing team we have here at the Spaniards comprising of some of the most driven individuals I've ever met, from back of house to front of house. 🏆🫂 Not to mention our achievements wouldn't be possible without our amazing GM Samuel Stradling who knows the game better than anyone else! He is the one who lays out the gameplan and provides us with all the resources we need. Being the Boss…   …is one of the greatest honours there is. I have heard a lot of people complain over the years about how tough it is being the boss, but for me, the positives easily outweigh any negatives. Over the coming weeks I’m going to explore what being the boss looks like for me. I’ll be looking at leadership, delegation, personal development, being dynamic as well as growing the team and constantly striving for improvement. And of course, continued growth and expansion plans for the future. My role as the boss has changed significantly since I first launched Paul Fosh Auctions in 2001, nearly 24 years ago. Being the boss then was me essentially being self-employed, working alongside 3 colleagues. Since then, Paul Fosh auctions has grown, almost beyond recognition, and Paul Fosh Lettings was launched a few years ago. So, my role has evolved from simply being self-employed, to being a Manager, Managing Director and these days, a proper business owner. I use those titles only to describe to myself in terms of the evolution of my journey. I am far from the finished article but feel content that I’m on the right path.
