Flying this route out of #London is a great opportunity to study the very first part of our route for [GB Row]: the #RiverThames and #ThamesEstuary!
🕙 Setting off from Tower Bridge at the top of the tide, we'll have six hours to get as far as we can on the evening of 9th June before the tide turns against us, probably somewhere around Tilbury after we pass under the #M25 at the QE2 Bridge.
As it'll be #springtides, and the adverse tide will run faster than we can row, we'll probably need to find a spot at the edge of the river to #anchor up ⚓️ for a few hours around here.
While most the focus is on challenges we'll face at #sea, just *getting there* carries significant risks - especially when you're facing backwards. There are jetties and pontoons that stick out into the river, huge metal mooring #buoys, lots of traffic that graduates fast from city boats and river taxis to #containerships coming in and out of Tilbury or London Gateway ports.
We need to be absolutely prepared and alert during this section:
🧭 Making sure we're in the right part of the river
👀 Keeping a lookout at all times for #vessels, objects and infrastructure in the water
📢 Listening to the correct VHF #radio channels in each segment of the river so we can respond quickly to instructions
⚠️ Being aware of shallow areas as the water drops towards #lowtide and #darkness sets in for that first night🌙.

While its transportation future needs to be clarified, for the first time in almost 40 years, Michigan Central will be a central hub connecting the city.
Here are my 3️⃣ biggest questions:
🚂 Can Michigan Central replace Amtrak's New Center station?
🇨🇦 Can Michigan Central connect rail service to Canada?
🔗 Michigan Central can connect Mexicantown, Corktown, and Downtown, helping make Detroit more of a truly connected city.
