If I could tell someone developing a new product three things, they would be:
Be your product's biggest user.
Don’t sweat the little stuff.
Don’t hire jerks.
Thank you Alexa von Tobel and Inc. Magazine for having me on the For Starters Podcast.
I always appreciate the opportunity to talk about Viam and my time at MongoDB, but it's especially rewarding to share the lessons I’ve learned along the way and how they’ve shaped my approach to leadership and innovation.

Obviously building a company from zero to taking it public had moments of rural stress. How have you gotten good at better managing it? Because I do think it's a pretty pretty critical skill set as a founder. One of the ones that I use a lot, and I tell this to a lot of people when they come to me similar questions, is. Make any situation you're in and take it to the worst possible realistic extreme. So not the insane worst case, but like realistically I'm OK, here's the situation. OK, so let's say it goes wrong. Let's say you lose that customer. Let's say this employee quits. What next? You work through it, and if that worst case scenario isn't so bad. Then why stress about it? And I think that's sort of the most important way to handle stress, is actually just saying which things are important and which things are annoying but not actually critical.

Great advice, staying close to customer needs really is everything when building a product.
I think too often, people get lost in features and lose sight of real-world problems.
