The collaboration between Madoqua and key ports has led to a groundbreaking initiative – the creation of a green fuels corridor linking Portugal, the Netherlands, and Germany. Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Madoqua, Port of Sines, Port of Rotterdam, and duisport, the vision of establishing this sustainable corridor is underway. This innovative endeavor aims to promote the adoption of green fuels for transportation in these regions, highlighting their environmental benefits and increased energy efficiency. The strategic alliance emphasizes a joint commitment to sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector. By spearheading this project, the partners are making significant progress in advocating for eco-friendly solutions in fuel distribution and improving transportation infrastructure. Today’s spotlight: Port of Roenne A/S ⚓   We are proud to have Port of Roenne A/S in MissionGreenFuels where they play an important role in our 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐭𝐗 and 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐒𝐁𝐔 projects.   According to Maja Felicia Bendtsen, clear industry standards are key to ensuring an efficient and competitive implementation of future sustainable energy forms. 

The seminar on challenges for ports and shipping in the transition to fossil-free operations took place last week in Stockholm, Sweden. ⚓🚢🟢🇸🇪 Organized by CLOSERse, IVL, Umeå Kommun, Umeå Hamn AB, Umeå Energi AB and INAB-Infrastruktur i Umeå AB as part of the Blue Supply Chains project, it explored future possibilities for sustainable fuels in maritime and port operations and ways to support the transition to fossil-free fuels such as #methanol, #hydrogen, #biogas, electricity and #ammonia. 🔋⚡🌱 🎤 “It is very important to look at shipping as part of the climate transition that we are facing in the transport sector. There is a lot to get to grips with, many different actors who have to do their part, you have to work together to get results and allow for development to move forward,” said Pia Bergdahl, Transport Analysis, attending the event. 🎤 Participants also had the opportunity to listen to Linda Styhre & Karl Jivén from IVL, who shared insights on the future of marine fuels. They explored topics such as environment, technology, economy and infrastructure, with a special focus on the Swedish strategy for bunkering and charging of ships. Handover ceremony: together for low-carbon value chains. 🤝🚀     During today's handover ceremony held in Oslo and in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid, representatives from key industrial stakeholders, Pascal De Buck, Geert Van Poelvoorde, Cedric de Vicq and Jacques Vandermeiren, formally presented the Oslo declaration on low-carbon value chains to Belgian policy makers, Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon, Walloon Minister of Energy Philippe Henry, Brussels state secretary Ans Persoons, Minister of Energy Tinne Van der Straeten, Minister of Justice Paul Van Tigchelt and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib. 📜     As we work toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, overcoming decarbonisation challenges while maintaining international competitiveness is crucial for industry. Carbon Capture, Transport, Usage and Storage (CCUS), aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions by capturing emissions from sources like industrial processes and power plants, will play a critical role in meeting this challenge.      Industry's flagship decarbonisation projects drive economic growth and employment, but targeted policy instruments at all levels are essential for their realisation in Belgium. Collaboration among all stakeholders is vital to succeed. Lady #energy at the Green Transition event by Aurora Infrastructure! ✨ The volume of projects in the Green Investments Data Window maintained by the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) is nearly 270 billion. The biggest question is how much of the total project mass will ultimately materialize. Therefore, every effort must be made to accelerate the progression of projects towards realization in Finland, such as the reform of investment permitting and the planned tax incentive, emphasized Ulla Heinonen, EK's Head of Green Growth. In September, Provincie Drenthe joined an extensive network of #stakeholders to brainstorm over the next steps towards #sustainableBusinessParks in the region. With the title 'GoudenGreep’, this was designed to discover and discuss #goldenopportunities for the energy transition at these sites. Guided by moderator Rixt van Dongera, our GRITH - Interreg NSR partners discussed how to develop a support process with entrepreneurs, financiers, park managers, grid operators, business associations, and energy experts.  Security of supply and accessibility are high on the wish list but it's complex. #Sustainability and #futureproof energy solutions require a lot of resources and major investments. One notable conclusion: sustainability is not just good for the environment but also worth gold in terms of Drenthe’s economic and industrial climate! In the words of Elton John: We’re Still Standing! Although the debate concerning the Norwegian government’s decision to postpone their initial zero emission requirements for all vessels in the world heritage fjords from 2026 to 2030 has caused quite the uproar – some key players and dedicated game changers are still pushing through. There are numerous industry front runners together with the Port of Bergen / Bergen Havn, such as Norwegian Electric Systems (NES), Corvus Energy, Havila Kystruten, Zinus AS, Norled AS, and of course our very own Environmental Port Index (EPI) and Plug | Shore Power & Maritime Charging to name a few, that are still standing the course for positive change. Zero emission traffic is not something far-fetched for the future – it is possible already today! Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I can share the Port of Bergen’s recent positive results in this segment. In 2024, the Port of Bergen aimed for at least 50% of cruise ships to utilise shore power while at berth. Now that we've wrapped up the busiest leg of our cruise season this year, we are pleased to share that: 🔌 Around 50% of all cruise ships turn off their diesel engines and connect to the shore power facility while at berth in the Port of Bergen. 🔌 Nearly 70% of all large cruise ships use shore power in the Port of Bergen. 🔌 So far and only this year, this has led to a reduction of nearly 11,500 tons of CO2 emissions in Bergen. It is also extremely inspiring that other ports are joining the mission! Huge congratulations to Plug | Shore Power & Maritime Charging and Montrose Port Authority, for not only making the important decision to invest in zero emission infrastructure (also known as the future...) in Scotland, but also for winning the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce – Net Zero Business Award for the shore power facility. A predictable political framework is essential for the success of the energy transition, and regulations and regulative framework are identified as the most efficient drivers for change.
