B.I.G. is leading the change towards a greener future by investing €5 million to transition our Cushion Vinyl production facility in Wielsbeke, Belgium, from fossil energy to biomass-generated steam. This transition signifies a major milestone in our journey towards achieving 'net zero' emissions by 2030. Through collaboration with Aspiravi and A&U Energie, a company specializing in converting non-recyclable wood waste into green energy and heat, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our Cushion Vinyl facility by 88% compared to current emissions. ⚡ ♻️ At B.I.G., sustainability isn't just a buzzword – it's a commitment. We're actively increasing the use of recycled materials in our solutions and making strides in our green energy initiatives. All this is part of our participation in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Recently, our targets were validated as science-based by the organization, officially allowing us to move to the next level of the initiative. The SBTi provides a framework for setting emission reduction targets to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement in alignment with the latest climate science. 🌍 RepAir Carbon proudly congratulates EnEarth on achieving €150 million in Greek State Aid approval from the European Commission! 🌍 This milestone, granted through the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility, supports the construction of a CO₂ storage facility in #Prinos, advancing Greece's climate goals and the EU's Green Deal vision. As partners with EnEarth, RepAir Carbon Capture is thrilled to be a part of this venture to capture and permanently store atmospheric CO₂ in the Prinos saline aquifer in Kavala, Greece. This collaboration brings a new approach to carbon management by retrofitting Energean’s infrastructure with RepAir Carbon Capture’s innovative, zero-heat, electrochemical technology that removes CO₂ at just 600 kWh per ton! We are thrilled to announce the launch of Slíglas, a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) start-up. Slíglas helps sustainability-focused companies and individuals offset their emissions by generating high quality biochar which permanently removes carbon from the atmosphere.   The world is warming, we're already dangerously close to 1.5°C and on track for much worse. Global emissions continue to creep upwards as we falter and fail to reduce our emissions. And, while emission reductions are still desperately needed, we must now also turn our efforts to removing carbon from the atmosphere.   Our solution focuses on breaking the carbon cycle, by transforming waste biomass which would otherwise decompose and release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere, into biochar. The stable structure of biochar permanently sequesters carbon. It's a method of removal which works hand in hand with nature, letting photosynthesis do the hard work of capturing the carbon dioxide, which we then remove from the cycle.   It's been an exciting journey to date, working to develop a fully functional prototype, engage with customers and partake in Enterprise Ireland's New Frontiers programme. We're still only starting and can't wait to see where this leads. Stay tuned!
