In the IEA Wind Task 43 Working Group 1 (Data) monthly meeting yesterday, we had the great pleasure of hearing the incredibly knowledgeable Sirko Schindler from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) talking about the development of an open transport metadata schema. We are hoping to transfer some of this knowledge, as well the the learning experiences, to our work on sematic artefacts in IEA Wind Task 43. Imagine you have a magical wand to #curb over 40% of global* #emissions using #digitaltwin - in a conversation with Robert Vrancken co-founder of Gradyent I and host team of Global Tales of Carbon Transition podcast discovered with tangible examples this is within reach. Robert is a straightforward talker, true deep engineering passionado who breaks down accessibly how digital twins work, how is Gradyent different in its solutions offered, provides tangible metrics to measure cost, heat input cutting to achieve results for decarbonisation clients. The next frontier for Gradyent would be to step from heat networks optimisation to multi-versal commodities of future such as Hydrogen. I - together with my co hosts Joachim von Scheele and Oghosa Erhahon will be watching out for this. Kudos to Robert and his passionate colleagues team. Have a listen at Apple, or Spotify below and let us know what you think: #Apple: https://lnkd.in/eQbHVYFb #Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eY-bE2xc *note: heat is 40 % of global emissions, 50% global energy consumption (WEF 2023)
Curious about how our real-time Digital Twin Platform is helping heating and industrial companies optimise and decarbonise their networks? In the latest episode of Global Tales of Carbon Transition, our Founder and CTO, Robert Vrancken, dived into what we do at Gradyent and shared our vision for the coming years. 🎧 Tune in now: EP10: https://lnkd.in/dvaWK-gP Joachim von Scheele, Erik Rakhou, Oghosa Erhahon #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability

Big thanks to IDGA for an engaging and impactful Operational Energy Summit! Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Operational Energy, Roberto Guerrero, participated in a thought-provoking panel discussion on Air Power and Energy. Joined by colleagues, Mr. Kirk Philips, Director of the Air Force Office of Energy Assurance, and the Honorable (Ret.) Ms. Sharon Burke, Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Operational Energy, the conversation centered on the critical and growing intersection of operational and installation energy needs for a robust national defense. Mr. Guerrero underscored several key takeaways: 1. Modernization of legacy aircraft: Upgrading our fleet with improved aerodynamics and drag reduction technology is essential for improved fuel efficiency and operational effectiveness. 2. Enhanced planning: Modern mission planning technology and realistic wargaming can optimize fuel usage throughout the supply chain. 3. Investment in groundbreaking technologies: The Blended Wing Body aircraft and similar innovations hold incredible promise for the future of energy-efficient air travel. We look forward to continued collaboration in ensuring a secure and sustainable future for our nation's air power.

Thrilled to share a major milestone in LineVision's journey toward accelerating the net zero grid: LineVision has announced that the deployment of their sensors on National Grid transmission lines in Western New York has been fully integrated into grid operations. This project, the largest in the U.S. and a first in the state of New York, marks a significant leap forward in deploying LineVision’s Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) system. The achievement underscores LineVision’s leadership in clean technology and commitment to driving positive change in the industry while increasing grid reliability. The project, now fully operational, provides automated, condition-specific line ratings to the National Grid NY transmission control room, enabling the use of expanded transmission capacity to deliver additional clean energy to homes and businesses in New York. For more on this important milestone, read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/esxCV6jn Congratulations to the LineVision team as they continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in clean energy! #DynamicLineRatings #CleanEnergy #DynamicLineRatings #RenewableEnergy #UPPartners #LineVision #NetZeroGrid #NationalGrid
🚀 We're thrilled to announce our DLR deployment with National Grid is now fully integrated into grid operations — marking the largest operationalization of #DynamicLineRatings in the US and the first in New York State! Our non-contact sensors on four transmission lines provide automated, condition-specific line ratings to the control room, and enable National Grid to use the expanded transmission capacity to provide additional #CleanEnergy to New York homes and businesses. 📰 For more on how our technology helps accelerate the transition to a #NetZeroGrid, read our press release: https://lnkd.in/esxCV6jn 🎙️Hear from NGNY President Rudolph Wynter, NGNY Operations Manager Kenneth Buske, and LineVision CEO Hudson Gilmer here:

As the closing comments suggest, we need to be transparent about the modelling or risk stuffing up renewables in the long term. Transmission is expensive and not the best solution by far. Localised grids and small power generation (including nuclear) are much more efficient and AEMO needs to come clear with this misleading report!
Unravelling AEMO's Integrated System Plan: World-class, incompetent, or corrupt?

Asking Spot to marry me? No, just a friendly handshake😊. I just attended the Vattenfall Research & Development digitalization conference, together with participants from different business areas in Vattenfall. There were several interesting presentations, but I think my top 3 were: * An outlook on the development within the area humanoid robots by Dag Wästlund and Erik Westman. What if we could have some humanoid robots in the nuclear power plants, doing the dangerous, hard or tedious work – that would be fantastic! The pace of the development seems to be fast, and there are actually low cost brands that aren’t even that expensive. I wouldn’t mind having one at home either, unloading the dishwasher, picking up things that the kids dropped, removing weeds in the garden etc. * The digital twin of Juktan hydro power station – made in-house by Vattenfall R&D and presented by Joakim Smedlund and Mats Hägglund. I’ve seen news articles on it before, but seeing the full presentation really made an impression on me. It’s a fantastic showcase, where they have used different digital inspection tools and technologies. The project itself is also really interesting, restoring the plant to what it was originally designed for – a pump storage power plant. This work will most certainly lead to Vattenfall learning to master a number of innovative solutions, that can be used in its other assets. * Business area Wind’s digital twin for support structure integrity, presented by Rasmus Høegh, using just a few sensors on the tower, to monitor the plant. I hope that Wind is willing to share their experience from sensors, monitoring & diagnostics and predictive maintenance with the other assets in Vattenfall. You are clearly ahead of the rest of us! It’s also always fruitful to network with people from other parts of Vattenfall, and to see the latest additions to the R&D laboratory. In a world where so many things have moved into the digital world, it’s fantastic that there is at least one place in the world where there is room for large scale R&D installations that you can actually touch – the R&D lab in Älvkarleby. Thank you also to Johan Dasht for your presentation on trends impacting the business, Anders Wik for arranging the conference and Ambra Sannino for welcoming us to the laboratory.
