On 25th July, we celebrate the International Day of Family Farmers, a date that recognises the importance of the men and women who work the land daily to ensure food on our tables. Just a few days later, on 28th July, we commemorate World Nature Conservation Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly to highlight the urgency of environmental conservation. These two dates, although distinct, are deeply interconnected. Family farming not only sustains the economy and food security but also plays a vital role in nature conservation. Their practices employ sustainable methods that preserve soil, water, and biodiversity. In this context, we are thrilled to present the first video in the series “Paradise Smallholders: the quest for agricultural sustainability in the Cerrado”. This video series offers a brief and engaging portrait of the history and daily life of a community of smallholders in Alto Paraíso, Goiás, on their journey towards sustainable production in the Cerrado. Each of the four videos highlights a distinct theme, providing a comprehensive view. In this first video, the farmers’ connection to their land and their expectations for the future are explored. The series invites us to reflect on how family farming can be a powerful ally in conserving our planet. How can we nurture local economic growth while also embracing our responsibility to protect the Amazon? 🌴 This is the central question of Amazon Week at the Brazilian Embassy of Paris (Ambassade du Brésil à Paris - Embaixada do Brasil em Paris), where our CEO Damien Binois had the pleasure of meeting our client Amanda Weiss of Gourmandinha. From September 23 to 27, this event tackles crucial issues: the fight against deforestation, the bioeconomy, financing and sustainable technologies. At Nossa!, we believe that açaí cultivated through organic, fair-trade, and agroforestry practices offers an innovative path to harmonize economic development with the preservation of our planet. And you, what's your opinion on this dilemma between economy and ecology?

We are INARSAC: Charting a sustainable future 🌎🍃 🌱 Since our creation in 2018, we have charted a path committed to producing raw materials such as Brazil nut oil and copoazu butter to supply the cosmetics industry, among others, while respecting the 100% organic and traceable origin in the Amazon of Madre de Dios. Through projects with agroforestry systems and a Brazil nut concession, we work to restore life to degraded lands and conserve the forests that surround us. Every step we take reflects our commitment to the environment, local fauna and flora, and the communities that make this sustainable dream possible hand in hand with our purpose-driven business. This is the heart of INARSAC, a commitment that continues to grow with each project. 💚 #history #future #sustainability

Our next presenter at the ISLANDS Conference 2024 was Rehema K., who did her island mobility with the University of the Aegean in Lesvos, Greece 🇬🇷 At the conference, she presented her research on Arthropods and Plants Diversity in Olive Groves. As it is in many Mediterranean regions, Olive farming is an identity in Greece. There are approximately 11 million olive trees in Lesvos covering about 75% of the total cultivated area on the island. And while Olives are among the major sources of income, olive groves contribute to the landscape and biodiversity. Ecological significance of olive groves is broad, including acting as reservoirs of biodiversity within the agriculture landscapes. However, as intensification in the agriculture sector continues including the use of pesticides, biodiversity is threatened. In this study, she explored the impact of farm management practices namely Sprayed, Cleared understorey and Undisturbed understorey and their impact on arthropods and plants diversity in the olive groves. Pitfall traps and yellow sticky traps were used to collect soil arthropods and flying insects respectively, while plant samples were collected using transect sampling. She emphasises that the exploration of similar and/or related studies is important in order to promote management practices that enhance biodiversity, improve soil health and promote productivity. Thank you Rehema for presenting your exciting research! Stay tuned and join us on this journey through our world of islands, celebrating the future of island studies and sustainability! 🏝 🌿 #islands #islanders #islandness #Lesvos #Greece #olivegroves #arthropods #sustainability #research

Our African (famously, ALKEBULAN) herbs and spices are deeply rooted in our heritage. They serve as a bridge to agroforestry, which is my greatest passion, by showcasing the biodiversity and cultural significance of our continent's native plants. When we embrace agroecology, we promote sustainable farming practices that integrate these traditional herbs and spices. This approach not only preserves indigenous tree species but also enhances ecosystem health, fostering a holistic approach to agriculture that supports both livelihoods and environmental stewardship. By doing so, we ensure the conservation of our rich biodiversity for future generations. The standardization of these products is essential. It helps preserve their unique properties and cultural heritage, safeguarding traditional knowledge. Standardization also encourages sustainable harvesting and cultivation practices, protecting biodiversity and promoting environmental stewardship. Furthermore, it supports economic development by enabling African local producers to compete more effectively in the global marketplace. I extend my gratitude to ARSO for building our capacity on this matter. #herbs #africanherbs #trees #mitinidawa

New Zealand greatly respects the environment, and uses sustainable farming practices. Our great soil, clean air, plentiful water, temperate climate and responsible stewardship creates the perfect farming environment. Which your pets get to thrive from. New Zealand's beauty and purity is breathtaking. The above photo collage attempts to capture the beauty, for you to imagine the land where animals graze freely and are sustainably & naturally raised.

Lavindin Grosso, a versatile and hardy plant known for its aromatic qualities and economic value, plays a significant role in Spanish agriculture. As a senior member of the Ultra Team, Joel Estaban recently visited the Spanish countryside to witness the cultivation and uses of Lavindin Grosso firsthand. His mission was to understand the plant's role in sustainable farming practices and to discuss innovative approaches with local farmers. Estaban traveled through fields adorned with the vibrant purple hues of Lavindin Grosso, engaging with farmers who shared their traditional knowledge and modern techniques. Lavindin Grosso, a hybrid of lavender, is highly valued for its essential oil, which is used in aromatherapy, cosmetics, and natural cleaning products. The plant's resilience to harsh conditions and its ability to thrive with minimal water make it an ideal candidate for sustainable agriculture. During his visit, Estaban discussed the benefits of integrating Lavindin Grosso into crop rotation systems, which can improve soil health and reduce pest infestations. He also explored the economic advantages of producing high-quality essential oils and diversifying income sources for farmers. This trip underscored the importance of sustainable farming practices and the potential of Lavindin Grosso to contribute to a more resilient and prosperous agricultural sector in Spain.🇪🇸 #lavindin #essntialoils #lavender #spain #perfume #fragrance #cosmetics #sustainable #ultrainternational #aromatherapy
