Dried Fish Warehouses Bring Hope and Sustainability to Nhamatanda Vendors Amid flies, dried fish, and various mixed products, the fish of Maria Massunde, one of the vendors at the Municipal Market of Nhamatanda, did not last long. The lack of adequate conditions to preserve the food caused the fish to spoil quickly, resulting in monthly losses of 1,250 meticais for Maria. This reality changed thanks to the support of GAIN, an organization dedicated to improving food security and the diets of Mozambicans. With the construction of dried fish warehouses, implemented through the “Improving the Consumption of Animal Source Foods” project and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the vendors of Nhamatanda now have a safe place to store their products. "I have more earnings now and my business can grow while supporting my family," says Maria. The improvement in fish preservation has allowed her to reduce financial losses and expand her business, providing a better future for her family. Maria's story shows how dried fish warehouses can transform the lives of local vendors. With the support of GAIN and its partners, many vendors, like Maria, are transforming their businesses, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future in Mozambican communities. This project promotes access to safe and quality food, strengthening food security in the region.

STUDY REVEALS WIDE SPREAD SALMON MISLABELING IN SEATTLE A recent investigation into salmon sold at Seattle grocery stores and sushi restaurants has uncovered troubling findings. According to the study, 18% of salmon samples were mislabeled, with a shocking one-third of "wild-caught" salmon sold at sushi establishments being falsely advertised. This raises serious concerns about transparency in the food industry and its impact on consumers. As awareness of sustainable sourcing and ethical food practices continues to grow, mislabeling undermines trust and jeopardizes efforts to protect our oceans and fisheries. The findings highlight the importance of proper labeling, ethical sourcing, and consumer education. It's essential that businesses and consumers alike demand greater accountability to ensure that our food is both authentic and responsibly sourced. 🌱🐟 #Sustainability #FoodIndustry #Seafood #Transparency #WildCaught #EthicalSourcing #ConsumerAwareness

“Each year, our wineries need to lift the capacity of their workforce for a short period during harvest. Our priority is to employ New Zealanders, but there is always a gap we need to fill from offshore,” said New Zealand Winegrowers CEO Philip Gregan. “Without these international staff, we could not manage the intake of all the grapes from more than 42,000 hectares of vineyards across New Zealand.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gp3MBT6X #FBTechNZ #FoodAndBeverageTechnologyMagazine #FoodTechnologNZ #FoodIndustry #BeverageIndustry #KiwiInnovation #FoodTech #IndustryTrends #IndustryInsights
