“The main forces behind sexual violence are not individual actions but the ways society has been shaped by systems of oppression, attitudes, and norms that allow the unequal treatment of certain groups over others.” - National Sexual Violence Resource Center This year’s #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth theme #BuildingConnectedCommunities, calls for an inclusive effort to make equitable choices together as a society to address the prevalence of sexual violence. Day 2 of #16DaysofActivism - Violence comes in many forms, and our strategies against it need to be varied as well. Trans people across Asia Pacific report widespread discrimination - Verbal assault is some of the most prevalent form of harrassment that trans people face, often leading to physical and sexual violence. Gender-based violence needs to be fought hand-in-hand with all; safety is not achievable without collective work. #NoExcuse #Transfeminism #GenderBasedViolence

May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month - a time to raise awareness, challenge attitudes and promote a culture of consent. Nearly half of Albertans - 1.8 million - have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lifetime, and that is 1.8 million too many. It's so important that we ensure survivors have access to the critical supports and compassionate care they need, no matter where they are in their healing journey. It's also important that we work to stop sexual, family and gender-based violence before it happens, and I'm proud our government is taking action to do just that. #sexualviolenceawarenessmonth #svam #ableg #abpoli

The #16Days campaign is to raise awareness about gender-based violence and what we can do to stop it. In our new report, 'Suffering for justice' we spoke to victim-survivors of sexual violence about their experience of the court process to understand what can be done to help victim-survivors have their voices heard. Of the victim-survivors that took part in our research, 73% of them said they were asked at least one question relating to myths or stereotypes about victim-survivors. This is unacceptable and must be changed. You can read our recommendations in full here: https://lnkd.in/eStEzET6 #NoExcuse
