My advice to any struggling news outlet: Go back to the beginning and rethink your mission. Are you in the news business to deliver the facts? By “facts”, I mean just that: the “who, what, when, how, where, and why?”, not someone’s interpretation/opinion of the answers to these questions.
You also need to earn back the trust of the viewing public and rebuild your credibility as a legitimate news outlet. How do you do that? You answer the “who, what, where, how, when, and why” questions objectively and without spin. You don’t fabricate news stories to reflect your agenda. You tell your reporters to not make up stories about dodging RPG’s in Iraq as they got off the plane if that didn’t happen. They aren’t Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible”! They’re journalists.
Someone will always find out the truth and if it doesn’t match what you have been delivering across the airwaves, you will lose your audience, your credibility, and you will have to start over!
That’s my advice, for what it’s worth!
