"Am I in the right job?" "Do I even want to be a vet at all?" "Why is it so hard to work together with my boss/some colleagues?" "How can I take care of myself, if I spend all my time trying to take care of my patients?" these may be questions that some of us have asked ourselves in our careers. Thank you Dr. Jenny Guyat for visiting Stijn Niessen, PhD at the VIN Europe stand at London Vet Show & BVA Live #LVS24 and opening our minds about whether a coach can help us find our happy spot (and helping gather donations for Vetlife !). Spoiler alert: coaches can help vets, just like they can help others! Also: did you know that the Veterinary Information Network Virtual Veterinary Internship includes valuable sessions with Dr Guyat and Dr Yaiza Forcada, PhD, who both happen to be vets as well as trained as coaches? www.vin.com/vvi #veterinary #veterinarymedicine VetLed Vet Harmony Ltd Veterinary Information Network CloserStill Media International Coaching Federation

I recently read an article titled “Veterinary Medicine: Working with People Instead of Animals.” It covered topics such as teamwork, collaboration, professional development, and empathy and compassion. I chose to focus on empathy and compassion, which, in my opinion, is crucial. I noted two important points: veterinary technicians must be able to interpret an animal’s emotional state, and they must manage their own emotions while offering empathy to the animal’s owner. This important skill will be valuable in the future, enabling technicians to support both the owners and the animals themselves. Owners need advice and guidance on how to keep their animals happy and healthy. #alpinecteinternships, #mountainlandcte Alpine School District CTE Internships School District CTE Internships https://lnkd.in/egHKz8Vw

I started my career as a veterinarian, but switched to the non-veterinary corporate world three years later. On the surface, they seem worlds apart. But my background actually helped me thrive in my new role. Here's how: 1) As a vet, I learned how to communicate clearly and empathetically. This gives you an edge in the corporate world too—whether it's clients, colleagues, or stakeholders, you can't get things moving without connecting with people. 2) When you're caring for animals, quick decisions and solving unexpected problems become second nature. Those skills? Serving me well to date. 3) Being trained to care for animals demands an insane level of precision and attention to detail. That precision has been a huge asset in climbing the corporate ladder. So, next time you hold back from applying for new opportunities due to a perceived lack of relevant experience, take a moment to identify the skills you've acquired along the journey. You'd be surprised to know just how much value you can offer in a new role! #skilldevelopment #careergrowth #personaldevelopment #corportaeworld #founders

Let's talk about MENTORSHIP. In a recent survey, 84% of recent veterinary grads* cited mentorship as the top reason for accepting their first job out of vet school. The transition from student to veterinarian, while thrilling, can also come with some stress as you navigate your new role. New grads know that a mentor can help with navigating those changes as well as provide a sounding board for difficult situations. At Vetcor, new grads have the built-in support they want. In addition to traditional in-practice mentorship, new grads also get to learn from clinicians at other practices in our network of 850+ hospitals during VetLife Days, and our Near-a-Peer Network connects you to other recent grads who are walking the same path from the classroom to practice. Is mentorship on the top of your list for your first job out of vet school? Let's talk about what Vetcor offers -- you might be surprised by our other amazing benefits, too! *2022 AVMA Graduating Senior Survey #vetmed #veterinarystudent #veterinaryrecruiter #jobsearch #veterinarycareers #veterinarymentorship
