🚨 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲'𝘀 "𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹" 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 🚨 With the European Commission set to announce the #CleanIndustrialDeal within the first 100 days, now is the time to shape a strong framework for clean industrial competitiveness. Europe must urgently implement Mario Draghi's report recommendations to future-proof the economy and unleash its cleantech potential. Earlier this week, the Energy Resilience Leadership Group, in partnership with Cleantech for Europe, hosted a roundtable in Berlin with Bill Gates, Jörg Kukies and senior leaders from energy and industry. The event focused on how to regain Europe's competitiveness, outlining first principles to boosting Europe’s industrial competitiveness immediately. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 🤝 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰-𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Unlock the EU's cleantech potential by fostering strong partnerships. 💶 𝗗𝗲-𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Attract large-scale private funding for cleantech manufacturing and deployment. 🌍 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Level the playing field with strategic industry, state aid, and trade policies. 🛠️ 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Ensure access to affordable, abundant, and clean energy. Electrification doesn't just mean electric vehicles by any means, it needs to be, and is much broader in Europe. I recommend listening to Taavi at the Cleantech for Europe Summit 2024 tomorrow, where he will explain the role of Skeleton in this world.

Over the past 6 months we have seen at Skeleton Technologies rapid demand growth from - #gridstability - the share of renewables is growing and Skeleton provides the last line of defense to keep the lights on with 200 MW power blocks. - #AI #datacenter peak power / peak shaving. Data centers experience power swings of over 20-30 MW per second making, Skeleton offers the key to get higher efficiency out of GPU’s in existing infrastucture and reduce the cost and lead time for new infrastructure - ⁠#Defense, defense requires extreme power and we are here to make sure we enable protection of the free world. These sectors are going to be some of the key focus for the EU in the foreseeable future, as urged by Mario Draghi's recent report. ⚡️New Commissioners to Weigh in on EU's Cleantech Competitiveness ⚡️ This week, Members of the European Parliament will be interviewing the next Commissioners. For the incoming European Commission, addresssing issues concerning our energy policy, trade policy and the future of the EU's internal market are crucial for scaling up Europe's most promising clean technologies.   Mario Draghi's recent report on European #competitiveness underscores that Europe faces a critical juncture. It's clear we need to transform our technological edge into industrial leadership. However, this ambition cannot be realized without a comprehensive industrial strategy that effectively integrates decarbonization with economic growth.   Our joint #letter with Energy Resilience Leadership Group outlines three critical areas Commissioners must take action in order to make Europe—in EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's own words—“the home of cleantech”: 📈 De-risking finance for cleantech: To attract substantial private investment, the EU must implement policies that balance risk and reward, particularly in manufacturing and deployment of clean technologies. 📋 A Europe-centric policy framework: It’s essential to reform state aid and trade policies to protect and promote European companies against subsidized foreign competitors 🔌 Enhanced infrastructure for clean energy: Access to affordable and clean energy is vital for the success of new technologies, necessitating significant improvements in grid infrastructure and regulatory processes. Shaping a Sustainable Future: Bilateral Solutions Participated in the EU-Australia Net-Zero Ministerial Forum. 🌱 Last week, Martine JOLY, Managing Director from Bilateral Solutions, participated in the EU-Australia Ministerial Lunch & Industry Forum on the transition to Net-Zero. This significant event, co-hosted by the Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce and the European Australian Business Council (EABC), brought together key stakeholders from both continents and an expert panel of leaders to discuss the critical challenge of achieving energy and sustainable transition. This was a unique opportunity to hear from European and Australian counterparts Kadri Simson, European Commissioner (Minister) for Energy, and Chris Bowen, MP Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy, on their vision for enhancing EU-Australia cooperation to overcome the critical challenges and seize the the vast opportunities presented by the transition to a net-zero economy. 💡 Fostering Collaboration: Key to Achieving Net-Zero Goals: This ministerial gathering attracted a diverse audience, including senior representatives from European Australian Business Council members, European trade agencies, industry leaders, and companies. It provided a valuable platform for sharing insights and exploring collaborative pathways towards a sustainable future. Discussions highlighted the immense scale of the transformation required, particularly in the energy sector. Estimates suggest Australia will need $1.9 trillion invested in energy alone to reach net-zero by 2050. 📢 Hot off the press! New Future Cleantech Priorities Report on Innovation, Transport, Construction, and the Future Energy System!   The Future Cleantech Priorities report is an interdisciplinary report that focuses on key takeaways from the Future Cleantech Festival and actionable policy recommendations, based on both the Festival and our overall work, for the new EU Agenda. Some key recommendations are:   💡 Innovation: Strengthen R&D and innovation funding: Prioritize funding for cleantech research and innovation by allocating more resources to Horizon Europe in the next programming period. Increase funding for the Innovation Fund and the EIC program to support a diverse range of technical solutions and fasten access to financing for cleantech startups. 🛫 Transport: Maintain the momentum: The European Green Deal has been a momentous achievement; however, the hard work is just starting to meet ambitious targets within the EU. Policymakers must maintain the momentum as revisions of important legislation and increased funding support for innovation will be crucial to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Regulation must also expand to include aviation’s hidden emissions and address contrails. 🏗 Construction: Switching from prescriptive to performance-based standards: Current prescriptive standards are simple to use but limit innovation, as low-carbon cements and concretes (or other materials) might not comply. Performance-based standards, while requiring some adaptation for industry to follow, allow more solutions to compete fairly and thus open up the market to innovation. Beyond lower carbon materials, standards should also incentivize structural efficiency and enhance the sustainability of the entire building lifecycle. ⚡ Future Energy System: Adopt a system-wide approach: Decarbonizing the power sector requires a comprehensive strategy that assesses all components of the future energy system. This strategy should integrate flexibility tools such as long-duration energy storage (including thermal storage for heat applications), digitalization, clean firm power, and enhanced grid infrastructure.
