#188 is a doozy! Whatever that is. Working on my monumental book project, it has become painfully clear to me that writing a masterpiece will NOT occur through learning everything there is to know about writing. It will not come about if I learn ALL the fax. The only way to write it is to let God, the Universe, whatever higher power you choose do it, and the only way to do that is to let go. Wonderful episode done, as usual, in Mark's patented crystal-clear, down-to-Earth, no frills, no spills, no Higgs boson style. Perhaps it was his legal training, but it's a task indeed to misunderstand Mark as he delves into Zen's finer points. Decoded: Slow Horses by @appletv This series has done the impossible for me. It has drawn me in and made me invested in characters in a limited series. Every episode treats me at the top of my intelligence and in lieu of unnecessary and clunky exposition, I am given free reign to color in my own thoughts and opinions of these deeply layered and complex characters. Sometimes, I enjoy simple characters and their presence but this show pushes back on that desire, reminding me of just how many factors, experiences, and life-altering changes occur in each one of our lives. It is a love song to the detective-crime genre without feeling the need to emphasize or highlight specific tropes. Gary Oldman is an absolute star in this role and shows us the harsh reality of time and its effect on people... for better and for worse. Jackson Lamb's ability and skill is never seen as infallible with powerful opposers and compelling storylines. Slow Horse elevates the genre and is another arrow in the Apple TV+ Quiver. I was hooked right from the start and never once felt like any one of these horses were immortal and incapable of being swiftly removed from the story. Slow Horses is a triumph grounded in reality and capable of pushing our minds beyond what is expected into the world of conspiracy and the fantastical.
