More artists should lean in to creating multiple versions and remixes of songs they believe in. Every time you release a new version or remix, you give your single a new opportunity to reach new listeners and bring awareness to the original song. For example, “FOREVER” by the rotating collective I founded, Vince & The Valholla Empire featuring ADN Lewis has over 10 versions (not including instrumentals) has over 400K on demand streams and a number of versions have been featured on editorial playlists. Every time we release a new version it gets new life. This strategy might not be a fit for every song but you should implement it in one way or another. What is the highest number of versions you’ve released for a song you believed in? #musinbusiness #recordingartists

I think about the concept of the Fourth Wall a lot. I have wondered, “is there only one Fourth Wall or are there many different Fourth Walls?” I tend to think the latter. One of the most intriguing of the Fourth Walls I have noticed is the one between what we intend to create in art and what is possible to create outside our imaginations in the world. I think *this* Fourth Wall is not often discussed. But it sure is debated. For example, in music, there is a raging debate right now questioning whether a musician should play a musical piece only the way the composer of it intended it. Is there a way to know this? This first Fourth Wall, so little discussed, I would say, plays a very great part in this question. How did the composer of said musical piece account for this first Fourth Wall? That one between their imagination and the “real world”. Is the music in the world that we hear exactly as the composer originally intended and heard it in their imaginations… behind the first Fourth Wall? #fourthwall #musicalintentions #debate #composition #musicianlife #philosophy #foodforthought

Despite the title, "Lost" is an example of a four chord/ four songwriter formula that goes somewhere unexpected with a twist and leaves those uninformed on drug culture, like me, guessing... #acoustic #coversong #songwriting #4chords #musicsupervisor #vocalist #music #pop #sleeper #hook #songcraft
J.S. Stephen King on Instagram: ""Lost" - Frank Ocean (cover excerpt) Not knowing a thing about this lyric I liked the tune and was hearing it emotionally, so decided to take a shot at learning it on my acoustic at sunset before busking (Note the live bagpipes in the background add another character to the scene. ### Exploring the Influence of The Fugees on Hip Hop and Beyond The Fugees, a trailblazing hip hop trio from South Orange, New Jersey, exemplified the power of genre fusion in the 1990s, overcoming initial commercial challenges to redefine hip-hop's musical landscape. Initially receiving modest recognition with their debut album _Blunted on Reality_, they skyrocketed to fame with their second album _The Score_, which topped charts and featured unforgettable hits like "Killing Me Softly." They masterfully blended hip-hop with soul, funk, and Caribbean elements, steering clear of the then-dominant gangsta rap narrative and carving a niche in alternative hip-hop. Their innovative sound and impactful lyrics not only earned them Grammy and Brit Awards but also paved the way for future artists like Drake and Kanye West, demonstrating the vast potential of musical diversity. Considering their remarkable influence and resurgence over the years through reunions, what do you think contemporary artists can learn from The Fugees' approach to blending diverse musical genres?
