Fantastic overview of the convergence of advances in basic science, #data science, systems modelling, simulation, #AI analytics and #neurotechnology - and a global commitment to collaboration - which make a Global Brain Health Index possible. Measuring and monitoring #brainhealth will have benefits similar to the Heart Health Index, which was one of the most important developments in 20th century medicine, and changed the paradigm from disease to health. Let's join efforts across disciplines and borders and build a Global Brain Health Index that doesn't leave anyone behind, and usher in a golden era of global brain health. It is the Brain Awareness Week, led by Dana Foundation. Awareness is typically about being able to measure and then understand. Most of us have never experienced any attention being paid to our #brainhealth during standard medical visits. As we speak, a routine assessment for brain health is largely lacking, for a number of reasons, from heterogeneity of #brain disorders to inaccessibility of the brain itself. Gladly, this where one of the most impactful changes in the field is taking place, given powerful strides in #science and #technology. Analysing an entire range of brain-health related information is becoming possible. In a game-changing mode, #bloodtests are emerging for disorders such as #Alzheimer's, completely unthinkable until recently, although performance still needs to be confirmed in diverse groups of #patients. Next challenge is applying these new methodologies in #primarycare settings. GPs will have to be thoroughly informed to guide diagnosis and avoid misinterpretation. The future will see a system of #brainhealth tracking with validated and optimised tools, relying on the integration of all available data, from genomics and gene expression, to results of cognitive tests and data from wearable sensors, topped up by powerful AI analytics. Projects such as AD-RIDDLE aim at delivering complete toolbox platforms to cover all stages of the clinical pathway. Quantification of #brainhealth is much more impactful and efficient than relying on individual markers. Importantly, this will enable proactive risk reduction programmes with individualised services and targeted multi-domain interventions. Brain awareness is slowly gaining an altogether different meaning.
