Small actions can lead to big changes. We're proud to showcase our colleagues' pledges towards carbon literacy and their progress in making more sustainable choices. Today, we're highlighting the inspiring commitment of our Executive Assistant, Liorah Bloomfield. "As part of my commitment to carbon literacy, I'm focusing on sustainable fashion choices to reduce my environmental impact. Recognising the fashion industry's significant contribution to carbon emissions, I've pledged to curb my fast fashion consumption. My approach includes prioritising quality over quantity, embracing second-hand clothing options and supporting ethical fashion brands. "This mindful approach not only helps reduce my personal carbon footprint but also promotes a circular economy. By making these conscious choices, I'm striving to contribute to a more sustainable future for our planet and generations to come." #CarbonLiteracy #mypledges #sustainabilityjourney #buyless #reuse #secondhand #teameffort

Would you mention a competitor in your e-commerce blog? If it is relevant to the content, it is in a fair way and there are good things to say, definitely YES. That's what Nancy Peyer decided to do when writing about the best sustainable clothing brands: https://lnkd.in/dutyXAbw. The main goal: give value to our blog readers. Readers loved the guide and Google seemed to go accordingly positioning it for many searches, becoming a successful post in terms of organic traffic. But that's not all, those good rankings managed to be relevant for a Forbes editor researching to create a post about Kamala Harris (another blog post, this one from 2019, that we recently updated) who mentioned our brand and linked (ok, no-follow) to the blog post. Here you have the Forbes mention: https://lnkd.in/dmnbTkKs In addition, I want to thank Fery Kaszoni who inspires us with his PR actions not only in our press efforts but also in our approach to creating content. We are far from developing your strategies but those make us think out of the box.

The #climatechange stats can get discouraging, but when you learn how many people are using their creativity to do their part to combat Climate Change and create sustainable companies, it is really encouraging. The two most recent guests on the Why Get Wasted podcast are using their expertise in fashion to help our planet. 1 - Julia Billings of WildHaven Wools makes kid's clothing from eco-friendly materials that are easily repaired and grow with your kids. You can send Amy item of clothing back as well and they will repair it. Based in Alaska, Julia's kids play outdoors, and she built these clothes to last. 2 - Nazia Siddiqui of Transcend designs and creates artisan women's fashion, careful to implement sustainable practices, such as not using plastic buttons. These special pieces are handcrafted by women who are paid fair wages. In the spirit of celebrating and focusing on #women this week, our sustainability top-tip for the week is centered on becoming a more sustainability-focused woman! Having awareness of some practical steps you can take as a woman to promote a more sustainable #lifestyle, can help you become a great #advocate to others and influence sustainable actions all around you. Some great sustainability top-tips for women include: 1. Choose eco-friendly #personal care products (from reusable sanitary products to biodegradable ones, there are great personal care options that are both great for our bodies and the planet). 2. Go for #local and organic produce whenever possible. Not only does this support local farmers, but it is also great for your body (promotes glowing skin) and reduces the carbon footprint from transporting produce. 3. Make sustainable fashion choices- Choose #durable products rather than fast fashion; to ensure products are not used briefly and discarded flippantly. Fast #fashion is a major contributor to pollution and waste. 4. Green your beauty routine- Choose #natural and cruelty-free skincare and makeup products (free of animal testing and safe for your skin). Look for eco-friendly product packaging and #beauty brands that prioritize sustainable sourcing. 5. Educate others- Being a sustainable woman also involves educating others about the essence of sustainability and encouraging #adoption of sustainable habits. So go ahead, be sustainably fashionable and glowing, as you continue being your awesome self, inspiring inclusion and setting standards of excellence! #sustainablewomen #sustainabilitytoptips #womeninsustainability #inclusion #inspiringinclusion #saynotofastfashion #crueltyfree #crueltyfreebeauty #sustainablefashion #iwd #sustainability

In our hearts we want to believe that the daintily clad young women frolicking in the meadow signal restoration of the natural world. We want to trust that the words "regenerative" and "circular" laced throughout the ESG disclosures mean real strides towards sustainable fashion. But when we look at investor disclosures, we see an undeniable tale of financial growth from clothing produced with virgin raw materials, an increasing number of which make a pitstop through newly monetized secondhand markets on their way to landfill or incineration. The sustainable fashion emperor simply has no clothes on. But you and I have known that he's naked for a while now, haven't we? It is not for lack of recycling the issues that we are where we are. Instead of reupholstering the problem, I offer a Matereality-check, examining an apparel company’s stated purpose, how they earn revenue today, and what is required instead for the industry to serve life. The latest from the Matereal World substack applies a Matereality lens to global clothing retailer, H&M. To be clear: H&M is not unique among their sector peers by any stretch, when it comes to messaging versus reality. I could run a similar analysis on any global apparel company and likely arrive at similar conclusions. But since I did a benchmarking on H&M back in March 2020 for a letter I wrote to BlackRock’s Larry Fink (he still hasn’t replied but I suppose things got hectic around then…) I thought I’d take a fresh look at them. This is not a gotcha. It's an "I got ya". I’m not aiming to take anyone down. Rather I recommend we lift ourselves up so we can get on with the business of thriving as humans among a beautifully interconnected more-than-human world. It’s easy to say, “Transformation!” (and H&M says it a fair bit). But it’s not easy to leave behind the known structures and norms, to chart a truly transformational course. To help with this, we need touchstones of reality—real-world industry data points—to gather the courage for those moments when we might wonder if it’s better to let things keep going as they are. (Hint: it's not better. It doesn't end well.) These touchstones show clearly how even “leadership” in sustainable apparel is nowhere close to serving life. It’s pointed in the wrong direction, and proudly so. You can see choices to transform towards a life-affirming approach, with metrics that apparel industry players can apply now to create real change. Like any great wardrobe, these life-affirming choices are made up of a small number of absolute essentials. Without these, no fake accessories can help. It is a big leap. But if you're ready, I got ya! Head on into the Matereal World and see what "leadership" in sustainable fashion is made of now, and what needs to be true to clothe us like life depends on it. Since it does. https://lnkd.in/gztszjXZ

AWAN clothes are excellent in every way; both fashionable and fashionably sustainable
AWAN (As We Are Now) has been nominated for the HER Sustainability Award 🙋🏻♀️ This nomination means a lot to me personally. I started this founder journey fuelled by a fierce desire to make a difference. Why should women settle for clothes that don't celebrate who we are? And why is it so hard to find sustainable fashion options? Soon enough, I realised this wasn't just a problem I felt personally — it's a planet-sized issue. The fashion industry, now the third-largest polluter, is entrenched in systems that resist change at every turn. We're fighting battles on multiple fronts: disrupting supply chains, shifting consumer mindsets, and securing the resources we need to scale up. Because true change in this industry isn't just about using recycled materials—it's about reimagining every aspect of how we do business. AWAN's mission is bold: to create a blueprint for a circular wardrobe concept & apparel brand. It's a tough road, no doubt, but the opportunity is also the challenge 👊 Thanks to HER - Hun Etablerer Ressursprogrammet and everyone voting for us, for acknowledging the work we've done so far in our quest to shake up an industry that's currently wreaking havoc on our planet. You can vote for us here 🙏 https://lnkd.in/d-64cu3x PS. We have been nominated for 2(!) Awards this year.
