We are delighted to hear that Westfield Energy Recovery Facility (WERF) in Fife has successfully managed its first fire. Congratulations to Viridor, Equitix and Kanadevia Inova for achieving this significant milestone within scheduled timescale. Amberside Advisors had previously supported Equitix with buyside financial modelling, through to financial close, related to the acquisition of WERF and subsequent formation of a Joint Venture with Viridor under Westfield Energy Recovery Limited (WERL), which was formed to oversee the construction and operation of the EfW Plant. Once fully operational, the site is expected to process approximately 240,000 tonnes of residual black bag waste and power around 55,000 homes. Last month, Member company, JDR Cable Systems, welcomed visitors to its new manufacturing facility in Cambois, Northumberland, which, once operational, will be a cutting-edge site able to provide advanced cable solutions. The visitors included representatives from the British Embassy Warsaw and Department for Business and Trade and provided the opportunity to gain insight into the site’s development progress and view its completed new Vertical Lay-Up Machine tower. The Cambois facility will enable JDR to use its expertise, gained through years of operating in the umbilicals industry, to enhance its ability to contribute to the security of energy supply. FuturEnergy Ireland and ART Generation have detailed plans for the 72MW Ballyfasy wind farm in County Kilkenny, a project expected to host up to 10 turbines, located east of Mullinavat, near Waterford. Pre-application consultations with An Bord Pleanála are underway, targeting submission through Ireland’s fast-track infrastructure process. Viridor announces it has reached financial close on the Thameside Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) at Tilbury Docks (Port of Tilbury). This milestone marks the next step in the development of Viridor’s latest Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, increasing its fleet to 12 state-of-the-art ERFs across the UK. Galileo has launched plans for the build of a battery energy storage system in West Lothian, with the firm keen to use local suppliers and contractors during the construction phase wherever 'reasonably possible 👷♀️👷♂️

The project, which incorporates a 350MWh co-located battery energy storage system (BESS), is located around 37km east of Dubbo in New South Wales. Construction is estimated to commence in early 2025, and commercial operations are scheduled to begin in late 2026.

🎉 Guidehouse is partnering with Distribution Network Operators in the UK on three Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) Round 3 Discovery projects 🎉   SIF has unlocked £5.8m of funding for 44 new energy projects to address the most pressing challenges that we face as we work to decarbonise our energy system.   In collaboration with our project partners, we are uncovering the potential of three innovative ideas with positively impacts for UK energy networks and consumers:   🌬 CoolDown will be the first project to consider cooling's potential as a flexible load for distribution networks. With Electricity North West, the project will explore how much cooling will be needed in homes and businesses as the UK warms. It will develop commercial models to maximise the energy system flexibility which building temperature management can provide, considering linkages between heating and cooling.   🌊 WASH will evaluate the impact incorporating heat from wastewater can have on heat pump-driven district heating (DH) networks, in terms of heat pump sizing and operational flexibility. It will also explore novel commercial arrangements to incentivise DH network operators, water & sewerage companies and DNOs to work collaboratively to decarbonise DH networks. In partnership with UK Power Networks.   🏝 LookNortH2 will look into offshore energy hubs (OEHs) and their capability to stimulate integration of offshore electricity/ hydrogen production between the UK and European countries. With National Gas, this project is exploring potential benefits and associated costs of developing OEHs in the UK.
