🎉 Guidehouse is partnering with Distribution Network Operators in the UK on three Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) Round 3 Discovery projects 🎉
SIF has unlocked £5.8m of funding for 44 new energy projects to address the most pressing challenges that we face as we work to decarbonise our energy system.
In collaboration with our project partners, we are uncovering the potential of three innovative ideas with positively impacts for UK energy networks and consumers:
🌬 CoolDown will be the first project to consider cooling's potential as a flexible load for distribution networks. With Electricity North West, the project will explore how much cooling will be needed in homes and businesses as the UK warms. It will develop commercial models to maximise the energy system flexibility which building temperature management can provide, considering linkages between heating and cooling.
🌊 WASH will evaluate the impact incorporating heat from wastewater can have on heat pump-driven district heating (DH) networks, in terms of heat pump sizing and operational flexibility. It will also explore novel commercial arrangements to incentivise DH network operators, water & sewerage companies and DNOs to work collaboratively to decarbonise DH networks. In partnership with UK Power Networks.
🏝 LookNortH2 will look into offshore energy hubs (OEHs) and their capability to stimulate integration of offshore electricity/ hydrogen production between the UK and European countries. With National Gas, this project is exploring potential benefits and associated costs of developing OEHs in the UK. It will develop scenarios that quantify benefits such as curtailment reduction, grid losses reduction, and infrastructure optimisation.
