𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. This is a global open innovation program launched by Visa in 2015 to support and empower fintech startups. Since its inception, VEI has expanded to cover over 100 countries, assisting nearly 15,000 startups that have collectively raised over $48 billion in funding. The program aims to solve pressing challenges in payments and commerce by providing startups with a platform to showcase their innovative solutions. VEI's structure typically involves regional competitions followed by a global finale. In 2024, the global finals will be held at the TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco on October 28, where regional winners will compete for a grand prize of $100,000. The program offers participants more than just financial support; it also provides global exposure, networking opportunities with Visa executives, and potential partnerships with financial institutions worldwide. The 2024 CEMEA (Central Europe, Middle East, and Africa) regional final saw Jordan-based GamerG emerge victorious. Rashid Haddadin 🚀 of GamerG won the competition, beating four other fintech regional finalists from Central Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. These finalists included Bahrain-based CNPSecure, Qatar-based TESS Payments, South Africa-headquartered Nomanini, and Nigeria-based Advantage Health Africa - Aha! GamerG is a Jordan-headquartered digital-first online gaming tournament platform. It organizes daily tournaments for monetary rewards, using skill-based matchmaking technology to connect gamers and level the playing field. The platform offers convenient digital payment gateways across wallets, cards, and bank transfers. VEI's impact extends beyond the competition itself. For instance, Visa recently partnered with ThriveAgric, a former VEI winner, to expand operations into Kenya, aiming to bring 10,000 more farmers into the digital economy. This collaboration exemplifies how VEI serves as a springboard for startups to achieve broader social and economic impact.
