The process involves precise control of key factors, including fiber stacking sequence (F.S.S) and nanofiller integration (MgO and TiO2). The vacuum bagging process is employed in the production of nanocomposite laminates. Experimental studies have been conducted to assess the performance of composites with and without nanofillers, with a specific focus on crucial mechanical properties, namely ultimate tensile strength (U.T.S), flexural strength (F.S), impact strength (I.S), and hardness (H). The Taguchi L9 orthogonal array design optimizes parameters and enhances mechanical properties. Comparisons reveal significant improvements with nanofillers, including a 31.96% increase in ultimate tensile strength and a substantial 68.43% enhancement in flexural strength. ANOVA results highlight the critical impact of fiber stacking sequence on ultimate tensile strength (63.65%), flexural strength (65.70%), and impact strength (9.30%), while nanofillers play a lesser role, contributing 11.71% to ultimate tensile strength, 2.66% to flexural strength, and 3.61% to impact strength. Polymers with dynamic bonds that break and reform reversibly are of great interest to researchers for their abilities to reconfigure, self-heal, and relax stress. The ability to accurately predict the emergent mechanical properties of these materials as a function of their molecular design inputs would greatly expedite dynamic polymer design for targeted applications. However, this requires bridging macroscopic mechanical properties to the underlying molecular architectures of polymers. That is what Professor Meredith Silberstein and I explore in our new paper, which was recently published in the Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids. Check it out here:

✨ Exciting news: New article! ✨ I’m thrilled to share that our article titled “The crack growth resistance of polymeric cellular materials studied with a quasi-brittle approach” has been accepted for publication in the journal Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures. 🔬 This research, led by WETTA Maxime, a PhD student who will defend his thesis on December 10, 2024, at our laboratory I2M - département DuMAS,  is studying fracture mechanisms in cellular polymer materials. It is based on mode I fracture tests and energetic, fractographic and numerical analyses. 🔎 This work is the result of a collaborative effort within the I2M institute, bringing together expertise from the DuMAS and GCE departments. It introduces innovative methods for measuring fracture energy tailored to rigid polymeric foams, whose properties are not yet well standardized. The study also highlights the limitations of existing models while proposing meaningful methodological improvements. 🌟 Excited to share our latest publication on Al-based quasicrystalline alloys, now available in Materials Today Communications! 🌟 This groundbreaking study demonstrates, for the first time, the formation of icosahedral quasicrystals through laser remelting of decagonal quasicrystals. Remarkably, both structures form from the same chemical composition but under distinct processing conditions, opening new avenues for research and application in this field. This work was a collaborative effort led by Prof. Dr. Adilson Rodrigues (PPGEM-UFMG/ IFSP-Bragança Paulista) and me (EESC-USP), with contributions of our collaborators from UNICAMP and UFSCar. Dear colleagues in materials science! 🌟 We are excited to share the results of our latest experimental studies, led by Dr. Mykola Slazhniev and the team from Dong San Tech Co., on the impact of pulsed magnetic field action on the microstructure of Al-Sn alloys. 🌟 Research on the Impact of MHD Process on Al-Sn Alloy Segregation Abstract: The study aims to explore methods for controlling segregation in aluminum-tin (Al-Sn) alloys using the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) process. The primary goal is to improve the microstructure and ensure uniform tin distribution, which can significantly impact the properties and stability of materials in industrial production. Key Points of the Study: Experimental Schemes: - 1D/2D EM Bottom/Lateral Pulsating Stirring: Utilization of one- and two-dimensional electromagnetic pulsating stirring to improve melt mixing. - 2D/3D Velocity Distribution: Analysis of hydrodynamic flow velocities in the molten metal. - Processing Scheme for Al-25(40)%Sn Alloy: Using a crucible under MDI conditions to achieve homogeneous tin distribution in the alloy. Experimental Study Photos: Experimental Setup Images: Displaying the equipment used for EMS and MHD processing. Microstructure Comparison: Demonstrating changes in the microstructure of Al-25(40)%Sn bearing alloy after EMS and MHD processing. Amorphous Al2O3 oxide coatings are obtained on EN AW 5251 aluminum alloy using the electrooxidation process. The quality of the IF-WS2 nanopowder is of great importance in the process of its introduction into the nanopores of the Al2O3 oxide coating. Commercial nanopowder tends to agglomerate, and without appropriate pretreatment, it is difficult to introduce it into the nanopores of the coating. To improve the degree of fragmentation of the IF-WS2 nanopowder, an experiment was carried out to distribute the nanopowder in the presence of strong ultrasounds, and new conditions for introducing the powder into the nanopores were used. A two-level design of experiment (DOE) was used. The SEM examination made it possible to conclude that Method A contributed to a more even distribution of nanoparticles in the microstructure of Al2O3 coatings. GIXD analyses showed the presence of WO3 derived from the IF-WS2 modifier next to crystal structures derived from aluminum and WS2. Modification of coatings using Method A resulted in surfaces with lower contact angles measured with polar liquids and higher surface free energy compared to Method B. #callforreading #article #openaccess #mdpi #mdpicoatings #openaccessjournal #scientificarticle

This new paper focuses on a similar approach, but this time with AA7075-T651 aluminium alloy, further advancing the integration of piezoelectric particles via Friction Stir Processing (FSP) 🔬. Paper Title: Smart piezoelectric composite: Impact of piezoelectric ceramic microparticles embedded in heat-treated 7075-T651 aluminium alloy In this study, we examine the electrical response of AA7075-T651 aluminium plates embedded with Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) and Barium Titanate (BT) particles. This research aims to expand our understanding of self-sensing materials (SSMs) and highlights the potential of these materials for real-time structural health monitoring in critical applications. Additionally, we investigate the impact of particle integration on the mechanical properties of the alloy, highlighting both the enhanced electrical conductivity and changes in microhardness. This paper is a key step forward in advancing materials science and the use of smart materials in engineering.
