Danish logistics leader DFDS acquired Ekol Lojistik's international land transportation network, a key step in bolstering Türkiye-Europe trade ties. Supported by Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, this milestone deal highlights DFDS’s confidence in Türkiye as the nexus of logistics and manufacturing. The acquisition integrates Ekol’s extensive network into DFDS’s intermodal operation and enhances end-to-end logistics solutions, ensuring efficient trade flows. "This is our second major investment in Türkiye in six years, reflecting our strong belief in its potential," stated DFDS CEO Torben Carlsen. Ekol will focus on sustainable growth in technology, warehouse management, and distribution following the transaction. 2025 comes as a turning point for global shipping alliances, as the global shipping alliance landscape undergoes a major shift, with new collaborations emerging and old one’s dissolving. In January 2025, Maersk will end its10-year partnership ‘2M Alliance’ with MSC and form a new collaboration ‘Gemini Cooperation’ with Hapag-Lloyd, which is set to exit ‘THE Alliance’. The other members of ‘THE Alliance’ will continue to operate as Premier Alliance.
