Fantastic to see #Nottinghamshire mentioned in The Guardian's article about a brand-new museum and tavern dedicated Lord Byron opening in northern Italian city of Ravenna. The museum is housed in the same building where he pursued an intense affair with the wife of an aristocrat and completed some of his most famous works. The sprawling residence in the heart of the city has been restored by the Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna Foundation and from 29 November visitors are able to wander through the rooms where the romance took place and where he knuckled down to complete masterpieces including: 📖 Don Juan, Sardanapalus, 📖 The Prophecy of Dante 📖 and the final canto of Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage Our CEO, Megan Powell Vreeswijk, said: “Lord Byron’s legacy continues to captivate the imaginations of people around the world, and it’s wonderful to see his influence celebrated in such an immersive way in Italy. As one of Nottinghamshire’s most iconic literary figures, Byron’s story begins and ends here, at his ancestral home of Newstead Abbey and his final resting place at St Mary Magdalene Church in Hucknall which are both open to visitors. Nottinghamshire is proud to have played such an integral role in shaping the life and work of a poet who remains a global icon as his legacy lives on. We look forward to working with partners locally and internationally to further celebrate Byron’s contributions, inspiring visitors to explore his Nottinghamshire roots and experience the rich literary heritage of our region. Byron’s international appeal and the opening of the museum and tavern in Ravenna offer a timely opportunity to draw attention to the dynamic relationship between our region and the world.” Read more: https://bit.ly/4iipxAU
