Celebrating 100 Years of Toastmasters: A New Chapter and the Power of Team Support Today marks a milestone—100 years of Toastmasters International! Since Ralph C. Smedley founded the first club in Santa Ana, California, in 1924, the organization has empowered countless individuals to improve their communication and leadership skills. For members and leaders alike, this centennial anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible journey of growth that Toastmasters has cultivated across the globe. In my district, we’re marking this occasion with something truly special: the chartering of a new club, Crescita Pro. Alongside this, many of our clubs are hosting special events to commemorate the Toastmasters legacy. The chartering of a new club is always a moment of pride, but it also comes with its challenges—particularly when it comes to gathering information and payments from members who are less responsive. This can be time-consuming, but it’s a necessary part of creating a strong foundation for the club. As a District Director, one of my biggest concerns is staying motivated through these administrative hurdles. Maintaining energy and drive can be tough when tasks feel repetitive or progress seems slow. However, I’ve found that what truly helps me is connecting with my team. When I take the time to share thoughts, seek input, or even just celebrate small victories with them, I feel enriched and revitalized. It’s in these moments of collaboration that I regain my focus and find the strength to push forward. One of the greatest pleasure I’ve during this journey is that leadership isn’t a solo endeavor. Surrounding yourself with a supportive team not only lightens the load but also recharges your enthusiasm and enrich your mind. As we celebrate 100 years of Toastmasters, I’m reminded of the power of working together—“Cultivating Growth Together,” as we’ve embraced in our district. Happy 100th Anniversary, Toastmasters! Here's to many more years of growth and leadership development. #Toastmasters100Years #CelebrateToastmasters100 District 109 | Toastmasters International

A new League year means new leadership. ✨🤩 Join us every Monday as we introduce a new member of our JLP leadership team. Meet Kate Hall, our President for 2024-2025. She has been a member of JLP since 2017 and has many insights to share about the Junior League of Philadelphia. ⭐ How has being a Junior League member impacted your life/career? The Junior League has provided many opportunities for both networking and personal growth throughout my time in the League. It's allowed me to hone in on personal skills that I've been able to take into work to help be a better manager and colleague. The Junior League, through the ability to go to conference, has given me a vast network of powerful women in their areas that I'll be able to turn to when in need of any type of support or just a friendly face. 🏆How do you define success? For this League Year, success is the realization of our goal to build and make our JLP community stronger. Our theme this year of Building Community Through Service Together. Throughout this year, each member has the ability to uniquely impact the league experience of another member. We are our own best advocates of creating a culture that allows each member to feel like they belong at each League event. I look forward to seeing how we can continue to lean into our cultivation of culture in the upcoming league years. ✨What advice would you give to someone who is interested in or about to start a leadership role? Know the League is here to support everyone through their leadership journey. No person's journey is the same. As a training organization, members should feel empowered to self nominate for roles that may be out of their comfort zone and know that all the leaders are here to support them. 🎵Who is your favorite underrated musician? Timbaland 🎥What movie do you wish you could watch again for the first time? Skyfall 💪What is your hidden talent? Fantasy Football Aficionado

As professionals, we often look to sports for dynamic examples of leadership in action. Manchester United, with its recent string of coaching changes, provides a vivid case study of the impact leadership can have on performance. The club’s journey through various coaching regimes illustrates how critical consistent and visionary leadership is to success. Each coach brought a new philosophy, yet the constant changes have highlighted the challenge of maintaining a unified direction and momentum. For businesses and sports teams alike, this underscores the importance of stability and alignment between a leader’s vision and the organization's long-term objectives. As Manchester United continues to seek the right balance under new leadership, the lesson for us in the business world is clear: enduring success is built on the foundation of consistent leadership that not only aligns with, but also enhances, the core values and goals of the organization.

When it comes to leadership, we can learn a lot from sports. Football is no exception, checkout these leadership lessons learned on the gridiron: 🎯 Constant Coaching: Being coached frequently is a positive sign. It means leaders see potential in you and want to help you improve. 📊 Standards = KPIs: In sports, "standards" are similar to our business KPIs - measurable, controllable performance levels we hold ourselves accountable to. 💪 Discipline is the X-factor: It's about showing up consistently, regardless of circumstances. This applies equally to personal goals and business objectives. 🤝 Team Accountability: Drawing parallels between sports and business can help teams think differently about setting standards and holding each other accountable. 🌟 Fresh Perspectives: Looking outside your industry (like to sports) can spark innovative thinking in business leadership. We have been working on a Host Leadership Assistant GPT. It draws on two of the Host Leadership books and multiple articles, including a PhD thesis on Host Leadership in education. It’s not complete yet, but we thought it might be fun to ask it – “Why should people attend the Host Leadership Gathering with Mark McKergow and Jason Pascoe on the 17th of September? Here is the answer 😊. Let us know what you think! Click the link to stay informed and get the latest updates in the gathering - https://lnkd.in/gz2ig3Ts Attending a Host Leadership session with Mark McKergow and Jason Pascoe offers a unique opportunity to explore and adopt a more engaging and participatory style of leadership. Here are a few reasons why people might choose to attend: 1. **Exploration of the Host Leadership Model**: Mark McKergow, alongside Helen Bailey, has developed the Host Leadership metaphor and model, which is detailed in their book and other publications. These sessions provide a direct insight into the model from one of its creators, offering a deep dive into the six roles of engagement: Initiator, Inviter, Space-Creator, Gatekeeper, Connector, and Co-Participator【24†source】【25†source】. 2. Practical Application: These sessions are not just about theoretical discussions. They are designed to actively involve participants in practical exercises. This includes exploring current leadership challenges, discussing the nature of leadership as a relationship rather than a role, and applying the roles to real-life leadership challenges【24†source】. 3. **Interactivity**: Sessions are structured to foster interaction among attendees, encouraging the sharing of ideas. This setup mirrors the Host Leadership principle of engaging and connecting with people effectively【24†source】. 4. **Flexibility and Responsiveness**: The concepts discussed, such as the "User’s Guide to the Future," help leaders think about long-term goals and short-term actions in a way that is responsive to changing circumstances, which is crucial for effective leadership in complex and uncertain environments【26†source】. 5. Developing a Host Mindset: The workshops place a strong emphasis on the need to transition from traditional ‘heroic’ leadership styles to a more inclusive, host-leading approach. This shift is crucial for leaders to create environments where creativity and engagement are prioritised, a necessity for modern organisations grappling with rapid change and diverse workforce expectations【31†source】【32†source】. By attending, leaders can gain new perspectives on leadership that emphasise engagement, inclusivity, and the effective facilitation of team and organisational dynamics. This can lead to enhanced leadership effectiveness and a more adaptive organisational culture. #Leadership #Innovation #HostLeadership #Teamwork #LeadershipRoles #TeamBuilding #AdaptiveLeadership #WorkplaceCulture #Empowerment #CollaborativeLeadership Click the link to stay informed - https://lnkd.in/gz2ig3Ts.

We recently hosted a tailored training day, bringing insights from the Global Leadership Summit right here to our team—and what a day it was! We explored key themes around leadership, risk taking, hospitality, storytelling, and even the science of happiness, thanks to an incredible lineup of speakers: ⛰️ Craig Groeschel opened the summit by giving us permission to obsess, because if you don't obsess about something, you'll never be great at anything. ⛰️ Amy Edmondson unpacked how intelligent failure is an important part of progress, and provided a framework to help decide on the right kinds of failure. ⛰️ Will Guidara inspired us with lessons on world-class hospitality. ⛰️ Kindra Hall showed us how to harness the power of stories in our work. ⛰️ Molly Fletcher shared her insights on high performance, drawing from her experience as a top sports agent. ⛰️ Dr Krish Kandiah challenged us to think about our reputation, and in particular, the values we would want to be remembered for. ⛰️ Erwin McManus explained the seven frequencies of communication, and we had fun trying to put our family members into the various frequencies. ⛰️ Arthur C. Brooks finished the day proving us with insights and habits to help us become happier in what he describes as an unhappy world. Thank you to everyone who participated, engaged, and shared their takeaways throughout the day. It’s always inspiring to see how ideas like these spark meaningful conversations and fresh thinking for our work.
