Hey all, has anyone been watching the Olympics? I enjoy watching individuals perform at their peak or being inspired by them as they overcome life obstacles: kidney disease, mental health, or social stigma. The U.S. is winning medals left, right, and center- but we still need to win at home. Health is wealth, and in the U.S., wealth brings health... The U.S. is the ONLY country with a privatized insurance system! It is also the most expensive! Ouch! The ripple effect is painful! 😑 People avoid preventative care appointments 😖 Illness remains untreated or regulated 🤑 People are afraid of costly medical bills 😭 We stop trusting the system. The cycle repeats.. and more painfully so for systematically marginalized individuals with a lack of representation and bias in medical spaces. We all need public health and use public health services at one time or another. There is hope. People are making a difference! Nonprofits and FQHC are making waves, making access and accessibility possible for communities. What can you do to help make these efforts go further? Donate! Your partnership is vital! ⚠️A way to detect fraud or errors is to always read your Medicare statements. The #SMP offers a My Health Care Tracker to folks to write down what happens at the doctor's office so they can then compare that to their Medicare statements when they come, sometimes months later. If you see something that doesn't seem right, call your provider's office. It could have been a mistake. If you see things that you don't recognize at all, like doctors you haven't seen, be sure to report it to the SMP.
