The Nigerian government, through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), is catalyzing industrial activities via its Common Facility Centers (CFCs). These centers provide skilled workers with access to government-supplied machinery and equipment, enabling the production of #NigerianMade goods. By alleviating the financial burden of purchasing equipment, machinery, land, and factories, the government is effectively subsidizing the production costs of #NigerianMade goods. However, like many remarkable initiatives, this one faces challenges that undermine its effectiveness in fulfilling its brilliant mandate. The visit by #Puttru was an opportunity to learn more about the CFCs and explore ways to enhance their functionality. FSVC recently held a training in Luanda, Angola, for representatives from Parliament and the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) to strengthen oversight capacity in the extractive industries sector. Led by FSVC experts John Makamure and Claude Kabemba, the training focused on the uneven distribution of wealth from Angola’s natural resources, particularly oil and diamonds, and its impact on the quality of life of the Angolan population. Participants learned about Angola’s extractive landscape, global trends, the need for robust policies and regulations to ensure sector transparency, and the roles of both Parliament and the SAI in protecting communities and strengthening oversight. Yesterday the Zambia LPG Association met with various stakeholders which included industry experts, Regulators and OMCs. The discussion centered around the paramount importance of prioritizing safety in the LPG business and the pressing need to crack down on illegal filling of cylinders within our industry. During our engaging session, it became abundantly clear that safety must be our topmost priority as we navigate the LPG landscape in Zambia. Ensuring the well-being of our employees, customers, and the broader community is not just a responsibility but a commitment we must uphold with unwavering dedication. Moreover, the issue of illegal filling of cylinders emerged as a critical concern that demands immediate action. Illegal activities not only compromise the integrity of our industry but also pose significant risks to public safety and environmental sustainability. As the Zambia LPG Association, we stand united in our resolve to combat these illicit practices and uphold the highest standards of compliance and ethical conduct. In October, Nigerian export ready firms spent two days learning and upskilling on all things AGOA utilization! Shaquana “Shaq” Teasley - DBS, CCS, MSLR, Founder of AGATE SOLUTIONS led facilitation of the two-day training, equipping firms with the needed skills and knowledge to boost non-oil AGOA utilization in Nigeria. With support from USAID, The US Trade Representative, SMEDAN and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), over 200 Nigerian firms are able to adequately navigate the intricacies of #AGOA and boost its utilization in the country.
