Interesting article, well worth the read "The thing about a widely applicable technology is that decisions about how it is used are not limited to a small group of people. Many people in organizations will play a role in shaping what AI means for their team, their customers, their students, their environment. But to make those choices matter, serious discussions need to start in many places—and soon. We can’t wait for decisions to be made for us, and the world is advancing too fast to remain passive." https://lnkd.in/gETn5kWS #AI #Futurism

A different paradigm for thinking about #ai and its impact on workforce. Fostering #innovation and productivity through psychological safety: “Companies that figure out how to use their newly productive workforce have the opportunity to dominate those who try to keep their post-AI output the same as their pre-AI output, just with less people. Companies that commit to maintaining their workforce will likely have employees as partners, who are happy to teach others about the uses of AI at work, rather than scared workers who hide AI for fear of being replaced. Psychological safety is critical to innovative team success, especially when confronted with rapid change. How companies use this extra efficiency is a choice, and a very consequential one.”
My new piece in Time argues that we are too focused on the wrong kinds of AI apocalypses, ones we can't control. Instead, we need to spend more time thinking about how to use AI in our organizations & institutions to help us thrive, not replace our roles. https://lnkd.in/dZNkb3RP

This is a very good essay by Ethan Mollick from the Wharton School of Business. He is very smart and articulate. The essay is on the implications of adopting and adapting AI for yourself, your team, your division and your company. AI Software and capabilities are a "seachange". Maybe it's time to think things thru. Suggestion - 6 Step Critical Thinking Approach - planning and execution: 1. Read this Ethan Mollick article twice, it is worth it. - There will be things you agree with and things you don't. Write those out along with your reasoning - Like a pros and cons list. 2. Weight the Pros and Cons - eg Hard/Easy, High/Low Cost, Complex/SImple, Priority Low/Med/High, Tractable/Intractable 3. List out plausible objections to change and adoption - eg - it doesn't work in the real world, meeting our compliance is impossible, it's too risky, insecure, copyright issues, it's not ready, it hallucinates, it is a fad, Gary "Marcus Says....", It going to ruin the works, it plagiarizes, it's just a "stochastic parrot" etc. 4. For every objection, write a short mitigation for the objection eg - for "AI doesn't work" - Mitigation - set up a lab and do some education and learning along with hands-on experiments with common use cases like chatbots in service centers" 5. Update your AI strategy for your team, division, and company with the results of this critical thinking. If you don't have an AI strategy.... maybe this thinking is a good thought. 6. Collect Questions you have about AI in one spot. (Here is a starter question - "Did Ethan use AI to help write this Times Article?) You may need to make a variant of this article for your own company - this is easier than you believe it is to do - use this strong essay and your annual report or strategic plan (tip - use an AI Conversation to do this.) To Prime for it.... and to sharpen the saw. A. Read some NVidia news and vision for long targets - https://lnkd.in/g3aGjMz8 B. Listen to an NVidia podcast on the commute - https://lnkd.in/g6XceXw6 C. Explore Nvidia Case Studies - https://lnkd.in/gNYHXw3k D. Get Some Free AI Training for your Org - Nvidia - https://lnkd.in/gdqREmTS If you do not understand why I chose all Nvidie assets above... please ask in clear questions in the comments. If you have objections to use of AI today and next year, please add them in the comments with an #objection tag on them - I will show a couple of techniques on how to deal with some of them. I always learn from objections. 🤖🧠ftw. #yourcheesehasbeenmoved #ai

🧠A fantastic and super insightful article from Ethan Mollick on our preoccupation about the future of AI and the impending apocalypse💥... 🤖 Discussions about AI's future often focus on apocalyptic scenarios involving AGI, mass unemployment, or AI growing beyond human control. However, this robs most people of agency in shaping AI's impact. 🤖 We are already in the early days of the AI age, and organizations need to make important decisions about how AI will affect work and learning. 🤖 AI has the potential to significantly boost productivity and affect highly educated, creative workers who have not previously faced automation shocks. 🤖 Companies should not simply use AI-driven efficiency gains for layoffs, as those that maintain their workforce and reorganize work around AI can gain a competitive advantage. 🤖 Workers often enjoy using AI because it removes tedious tasks, leaving them with more meaningful work. However, managers must actively shape this outcome. 🤖 Rather than fixating on a single AI apocalypse, we should address the many potential local catastrophes that can arise from unimaginative or harmful AI implementations. 🤖 AI can also lead to local victories, empowering workers and learners, if used correctly. 🤖 Decisions about AI's use will be made by many people in organizations, so serious discussions need to start soon to avoid having decisions made for us. The AI revolution is here, and it's about the everyday choices we make as it integrates into our lives... We can either let it steamroll us and leave a trail of pink slips and confused students in its wake, or we can grab the reins and steer this thing towards a future where AI is more like a trusty sidekick than a job-stealing robot overlord. It's time for real discussions to ensure AI enhances work and learning, not just efficiency. In the end, it's about how we choose to coexist with this technology. #AIRevolution #EmbracingAI #FutureOfWork #TechAndSociety #WorkplaceTech #EdTech #ResponsibleAI #AIEthics #HumanAICollaboration #LeadershipInAI #AIStrategy #InnovationAtWork #SkillsOfTheFuture #LifelongLearning #TechnologyAndHumanity
